It's worth checking the context of the poem that gave us "If ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise"
See below.
It's not a simple stupid proposal in favour of simple ignorance.
And while I generally agree that "the unexamined life is not worth living" I also note that, as George Eliot remarked, "the life too closely examined may not be liveable."
Too much information can be paralysing. But how do you discover what is too much, except by seeking it out, because it might be critically useful?

I would rather have the complications of being informed, especially as a thing happens, since later truth-revealed can really fall like a ton of bricks!
There is no bliss in being ignorant, just ignorance... at least that is my opinion. Truth will always out, unless you are from a galaxy far far away where truth can't enter at all. You know who you are. bwwwahhaha.
No, actually I feel quite serious about this. Please, people, try to stay as informed as possible about everything in your world, no matter how big or small.

The human condition is such that if we know certain things our minds with a conscious can't handle that information. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. There are many many different things I wish I didn't know or have to think about.

I want it both ways,LOL!!!!! If I'M doing something that offends someone or hurts them in someway, I want to know so that I can change, make amends, or tell them to kiss my @ss, depending on the situation. If, say, my husband was having an affair, I'd honestly rather not know. I mean unless he was planning on leaving me. It would just hurt me and make me feel bad. I'd forgive him but honestly I'd rather never know. If it was just sex what good would it do me to know? I know that I sound ridiculously naive but I've thought about it, and that's really how I feel.
P.S. We use condems when we have sex anyways because I'm over 35 and I smoke so I can't be on the pill. I don't want a well meaning STD lecture from anyone. K?

If the truth hurts, I would rather know the truth, as the suffering would be something that was real and the fact that if you suffer long enough and survive, you won't be suffering anymore.
If I were to remain ignorant, I would be putting other people through suffering.

I agree with Socrates when he said the unexamined life is not worth living. it is better to confront the truth, and be honest with yourself than to go through life an idiot.
