I really do respect a politician that is willing to deal with the ills of his own party. I would love to see a Democrat do the same

EXCERPT FROM ARTICLE:
Romney, a former governor of Massachusetts, lays out a tough bill of particulars against his party, portraying Republicans as ethically challenged big spenders and delivering a veiled slap at President Bush and two of his main rivals on the subject of immigration.

"If we're going to change Washington, Republicans have to put our own house in order," Romney says, speaking directly to the camera. "We can't be like Democrats a party of big spending. We can't pretend our borders are secure from illegal immigration. We can't have ethical standards that are a punch line for Jay Leno."

holy cow-- and Dems are still immune to their own idiocy.

Instead of worrying about Conservatives, just do what Mitt did and change the foolishness in your own Party.

This is very refreshing to see. I think I may have to take a closer look at Mitt Romney now. I don't see Giuliani making statements like this.

Also, Mitt Romney demanded that the U.N. hand Iran's President an indictment for the human rights abuses he is guilty of when he gets to NY. Go Romney!!

I would love to know how the Republican party and Mr. Romney justify continually calling the Democrats a party of big spenders when thats all the Republicans have done since they have been in office.

Especially annoying is the fact that there was a budget SURPLUS when Mr Bush took office - a gift from Mr. Clinton.
Just wonderin' how much of a deficit is there now? 5 or 6 trillion?

As far as being a punch line for Mr. Leno - all politicians are fair game.

Very interesting idea. I like the notion of cleaning up the Republican party because it's strayed so far from the base under Bush.

It would interesting to see if anyone in the Republican party jumps on the side of "We as a party are just fine" or just choose to attack him as the messenger.

Ah. I'm reminded of the phrase, "hoisted by his own petard."

I am suspicious about the activities of *any* politician who is running for president. While I agree with Romney's assessment, in general, I think it's disingenuous to vilify another political party as an example of where his own party's road to Hell may lead.

ALL politicians are part of a party of big spending.

This is clear oppression of Jay Leno. I'm sorry but I cannot conscientiously accept the words of Mitt Romney when his hairspray is still stronger than his convictions.

Romney is the man to do it too. He is the clean up king.

Well Hooray for Mitt. Maybe now he'll actually put some proverbial money where his mouth is.

Yeah, Romney has really impressed me as of late. His comments about Ahmadinejad , now this...

If he keeps this up he damn well may win my vote.

I agree, and there is one Democrat (or, i guess you could say former Democrat) still in office who has done just that; Joe Lieberman.
