I want give an old pc to my son,but want to remove all the stuff that is on the disk except the OS so he has a "new" PC

reformat just put the windows disk in or the manufacturers start up disk and reboot and follow the directions

Best way is to use the original Recovery CD that came with the computer.

Otherwise you will need to "Add & Remove Programs" and uninstall everything by hand.

CCleaner also helps to get rid of any bits left over. And Ad-Aware just to help clean up the last bits.

The fresh install means the Registry is clean and small and this improves performance.

The computer should have come with either a Windows or a Recovery CD. Boot with that CD in the drive and it should run a "set up" while will erase the hard drive and return it to its original "Windows Only" condition.

my computer has a recovery petition on the hard disk called PC angel, all i have to do is press the F10 key whilst the computer is booting up, and from there PC angel takes over, and I can tell the computer to format the hard disk and reinsert a fresh copy of windows, this gives me a "new" computer.
