Help from experienced GEMOLOGISTS or JEWELERS?

Question

I'm making a necklace and want round malachite beads. Found some- trouble is how do I know AAA malachite beads are quality beads? If the hardness is only 3-4, is it harder if it's stabilized? and how can David Yurman sell a malachite beaded necklace for $2, 300? I want to use them with 14K gold so I don't want to use a soft gem. Please be specific.

Am no gemologist but found the question interesting. I didnt know the art involved. I will also keep an eye open for any explanations.
