I've never been to Homecoming OR Prom before, and I've just been invited to Homecoming with a couple of friends. I have no idea how Homecoming is different from the Prom except it's a little less dressier. Does that mean a "short cocktail dress" style, or just a more "simple prom gown" style? I REALLY need someone's expertise. In detail, plz. What EXACTLY should I wear? thanx......

While it's been a few years since I went to a homecoming or prom, I distinctly remember Homecoming being a far less formal event than Prom. I'd say for Homecoming you could easily wear a cute sassy cocktail length dress or even a dressier top/skirt combo, something along these lines:

These are more along the lines of something you would wear to Prom:

Of course you don't have to go with these exact colors or styles, jsut to show you the difference in the formality of the two events. For Homecoming, I'd keep make up and hair and accessories more casual and fun, and for prom go more all out glamed up/princessed like. Hope this helps, have fun!

Homecoming is much less formal. It is acceptable to wear a short coctail dress or a long less formal dress. I would not wear a metallic, or prom type dress to homecoming. I would also do your hair and makeup a little more casual than I would at prom. Good luck!

when I was in high school homecoming was way less formal than prom. Prom and/or senior ball were very glam, long formal dresses. Homecoming was always shorter cocktail dresses.

Homecoming and prom both call for long dresses, however for homecoming you can get away with a shorter one. Keep in mind you want something that you will be able to dance in! While more and more dresses are getting shorter, it never hurts to be more formal.

for homecoming wear something long, elegant and full of glamour (glittery, sequins, etc.) you want to sparkle on the field. For prom anything goes really you could wear the cocktail dress or an elegant dress as well.
