Personally I had no trouble with the church one. I tried a couple of classes then left. No probs, and less churchy pushing than any other religion Ive had contact with. But I will honor your question.

The book of Dianetics can be bought at any book store. Its actually meant to be bought and studied on its own.

However, there has been some splinter groups that have broken off from the CHURCH of Scientology. They get alot of flack from the Scientologists. The biggest is called the Free Zone. They do the scientology thing without the church thing (now that its no longer 1950 and organizations can legally do that)

You can't. The whole purpose of Scientology is to fleece you. If you want information on the background of the church, purchase the associated books via amazon or Google the topic.
