I watched the documentary "The US vs. John Lennon" last night and was struck that no one has pursued peace as doggedly in these trying times as that reat man did in his day. He didn't care what people thought of him, as long as his message got out.

War is over. If you want it.
Where is that man (or woman) today? Who has the fortitude to speak truth to power and risk the slings and arrows of the right wing slime machine? Is there no one out there?

War is over.

If you want it.

JimSock: You guys really should get over the whole rewriting history thing. First, Vietnam was winnable, now John Lennon was a "marginal talent?!?!?!"

I guess somebody was buying the Archies.

Sandra G.: Yes, he did.
He didn't organize, but was a drawing point as a speaker.
He traveled the WORLD speaking out, not just the US.

Most people won't agree... but...

Our generation's John Lennon is...

Madonna.

She sympathizes with everyone, blacks, jews, muslims and with her Evita movie, even Nazis. (YES, NAZIS) Everyone deserves empathy and sympathy, regardless of race, creed, religion, beliefs or past mistakes. No one deserves to have anything pinned on them.

If you look at her career, every single album she's ever put out has been about love and getting everyone to work together and being yourself.

Someday people will look at her as a Martyr. She's going to get killed by some crazed lunatic.

I seriously wonder if a figure like John Lennon would make it in the music industry or elsewhere in the media nowadays. Everything (esp. the music industry) is run by corporations and it all boils down to profits and nothing else, so it's all about style over substance. We also now live in a society that cares more about how good a parent Britney Spears is than about world peace. It's sad, really.

I was a big fan of John's (as well as the Beatles) and I'm a Republican. I left the dems after Jim-may Peanut, err,I mean Carter. Anyhoo,I was at the vigil for John. You must remember ,back during Vietnam there was a draft.

And btw,the music today pretty much blows. Not a Lennon or Dylan in sight.

He was also stoned 90% of the time. Just saying. It's easy to advocate peace when all you have to do is drugs, women and bang out the occasional album. How would Mr. Lennon have performed had he been a real leader, like a president? I doubt very well... he'd get a real dose of reality once he realizes that true peace is not as easy as raising two fingers and taking a hit from the bong.

You are kidding right?? Although i do like allot of his songs,he was a dope head and the only good thing he did was in his songs.

Ask as to why he loved his second son more than the first he said. Well the first was was made in the back seat of the car,the second in love. he loved very few people and did nothing for people in general. I think he loved fame more than anything in his life.

About him wanting world peace. What did he do to help bring peace other than sing it and rake in the money for it.

John Lennon is 6 ft under... just like his idea for world peace. Seems there are some religious fanatics who prefer death and murder to 'disbelief' in their god.

Whomever it is, he's keeping his head down in case some other American fruitcake shoots him.

Quite likely in the current climate as Bush would probably have him declared a terrorist.
