Is latitude north and south or east and west? Same with longitude. Please tell me.

Longitude is north and south remember long up and down

latitude east and west like steps on a latter

latitude- the position north or south of the equator measured from 0° to 90°

longitude- the distance of a place east or west of an imaginary line from the top to the bottom of the Earth, measured in degrees

The word "LONGitude" should give you a clue and is a way of remembering its meaning since north to south, as a mental placement, indicates top to bottom, lengthway - Longitude.

Latitude is then the rememberable other, indicating around the globe, or the east/west circumference..

Easy way to remember this:

Latitude lines change in length as you go farther from the equator. As you get closer tot he poles, they get shorter.

Longitude lines go from pole to pole, so are the same length at all times.

So "Long"itude lines are Longer!
