I have been sewing along, and all of a sudden my machine needs some adjustment. The lower thread is loose enough that I can pull it right out of the stitches after I sew a length. What do I do?

The machine is a Husky, if that makes any difference.

Unless you have recently changed the top tension I wouldn't touch it until you try a few things.

The first thing I would do is check to make sure your bobbin casing is free of lint, threads, stray needles if you've broken one recently, ect. Then I would rethread your machine and the bobbin. Sometimes it's as little as the thread never made it between the tension disks.

If those don't work tightening your top tension in very small increments till the top thread is tightened which in turn will tighten the bottom thread.

PS: you can change the bobbin tension but unless you really know what your doing I wouldn't touch it. It can be very touchy.

Lower tension won't just *poof* need to be changed.

Willeke's suggestion to check the bobbin position is *right-on*. With the flat side of the bobbin facing you and the thread hanging down before you put it into position, it will look either like "p" or like "q". It should *always* go in a given machine the same way. Some machines are set up for "p", others for "q". Putting the bobbin in "backwards" can have the effect described.

All of my machines have ways to adjust the bobbin tension. I have never had a need to change the bobbin tension with regular thread, just with elastic and with bulky top-stitching thread and I carefully recorded the original screw positions and promptly restored original settings at the end of such special stitching.

Is your upper tension OK?
It is almost always the upper tension that is wrong when you need to adjust tension.

Also check the way your bobbin is in its case, if it is the other way round to what it should be it can also result in tension problems.

There is no way for you to adjust the lower tension. Work on the upper. Usually the tension would be the middle number of your tension selector. Get back your book.
