Is it possible for intolerant persons to grossly force their beliefs and practices on others, through the political realm?

USA is quite unique in this aspect; we have many various cultures and religions--how do we respect them all individually?

Religion should NEVER play a factor in politics. No decisions or laws should be based on religions reasoning and beliefs. Reason is because not everyone practices the same religion.

It is abusive when laws are passed based on one religion's desire to bend the law to their will without regard for the religious beliefs and civil freedoms of others. Yes, it is possible for intolerant people to force their beliefs on the rest of us. Witness the Marriage Amendment which sought to add discrimination to our Constitution. That amendment was presented and endorsed by those who believe their religious beliefs about gay marriage trump civil equality. I was gratified that it had no chance of passing and that even most conservatives balked at disgracing our Constitution by adding a form of bigotry. But just the fact that it was presented twice and that our President endorsed it was bad enough. It offers proof that we need to remain vigilant when it comes to religion driving politics into their churchyard driveway and parking it there as though that's where it belongs. That is how we continue to respect all religions individually and keep our government secular at the same time - by staying vigilant against those who desire to promote the idea of theocracy over our secular republic.

The best way to respect them is to mind our own ******* business, and stop trying to tell other people what to do. But we live in a country full of nosy liberals and pushy conservatives.

It's morelikely to be the other way around. Politicians are more likely to become PC as to wipe out any mention of any religion.

Yes, it's called the vote.

A lot of southern counties are "dry" because the Baptist are against alcohol and they vote not to allow alcoholic sales in their counties. Get enough votes, you get your way.
