This is what happens:
Peter goes back in time and while he is dancing in prom night he punches the giant chicken by accident. The giant chicken was gonna fight him right there but a nearby guy stops him and tells him "wow slow down you are not going to see him again."
Many years down the road, the chicken got his revenge and gave Peter an expired coupon.
That is how it all started.

There are two reasons so far:
1) He gave Peter an expired coupon
2) In a newer episode where Peter goes back in time. He accidentally punches the chicken in the face while at his School Prom.

Even though I love that show, I have to say that everything Peter does on that show is stupid/random/pointless.
