Now I understand how Bush got re-elected.
So far, a majority of white people that have posted comments opposing support for the Jena 6 seem to be under the impression that the white kid who was attacked was attacked asa direct result of a noose being hunge on a tree. And that he was brutally beaten. And that Black people are protesting because they think the Black kids are innocent.
Not sure how so many people all came up with these misconceptions, but I suspect those are the same people that think Saddam was responsible for the attack on 9/11. (even though a Bin Laden video comes out every 3 months)

The problem with Jena 6 is that outside people and media misrepresented it as a race issue. It is a school safety issue. I work at a poor, rural high school where if students get into physical altercations, we have them arrested and file charges against them regardless of their race. This is because in recent years, young people (boys in particular) think nothing of beating the snot out of somebody and just getting a slap on the wrist. Yes, the noose incident was stupid and insensitive and was dealt with the strongest consequences the school had available. Beating a student unconscious by 6 students is dangerous and life threatening. We had a kid die a few years ago from a single freak blow by one student on another. Both kids were black, so nobody made a race issue of it. We can't keep minimizing school violence by using race as a red herring.

Whites will be whites. That's all I can really say about that. Even though they are responsible for so many racist atrocities and outrage throughout America, sadly they will continue in their bigotry and excuse making indefinitely.
Now on to the important part; I am so happy that Michael Bell's conviction was overturned. It reminded me when my brother was jumped by 9 kkk slobs back in the day. The principle just labeled it a "school boy brawl" until we sued them. I hate those bigots to this day. There isn't a day that goes by that I do not think about what happened to my brother and how the dumb white faculty from my school handled it. That began the formation of my opinion of these folks that hasn't changed sadly. It hasn't changed because they haven't. It's only gotten worse.
I love the march today!! HOORAH!!! Go Jena 6!!!! Incidentally, the white guy that they charged the 6 with --- with attempted murder --- well, he went to a party the very same night that he was supposedly beaten so badly.
What a crock!

I learned that racism is still alive and that no matter what it will always remain around. Although alot of us like to think that we harbor no racial feelings, in reality we sort of do. I feel that we should use this case as an example for future generations. Love is the only way to get by in this world. Two wrongs don't make a right.

After seeing the whole story from the beginning, I can understand why my husband has not let a lot of his views go. Racism is still alive and popping in the United States.

All i can see is that black people are NOT for unification in this country, they are FOR black people only!!! Whatever as long as it's in your best self interests, right? NewJersey1 is a prime example of that! "watch white man get owned?" Give me a break! You're saying that white and black should not be equal, black should be better!

It has taught me that America is still as racist and ignorant as ever. I've heard so many different versions of this story it's pathetic. People need to just pay attention. This crap shouldn't even be happening in the first place. So much for liberty and justice for all.

you are so right. the only thing that I keep hearing is the white boy was beaten within inches of his life, and he was so badly beaten, and he was unconscience. But I dont hear them say that this kid got hit with a bottle, or this person got a shotgun pulled on him, or there were 3 nooses hung up, or parents and kids complained but the school didnt do anything about it, or when a DA comes in your school with armed police and tells kids I will end your life with a stroke of a pen....yeah the white people forget about all that.....

You are my hero.
No one is saying that what these kids did was right in any way. What we are saying is you cannot charge them with attempted murder for beating someone up, who life was never ever close to ending. He left the Hospital 2 hours after being seen, he attended the ring dance later that evening... An attempted murder charge is for someone who critically injured and wounded someone and brought them within inches of death!!

That it was stupid of me to buy into the notion that the majority of Americans are interested in unifying and getting along. I'm quite saddened by everything that I've read. Apparently, certain demographics haven't changed and never will. It will always come down to one thing and one thing only.
