The term "short" is itself a put down and a derogatory term. If you will think for a moment. The word 'short' has the connotation of something that is deficient. For example: we say, 'you cut that board too short', or 'I counted my money but I came up short', or 'he is one card short of a full hand', etc I'm sure you can think of many phrases that go like this. I am 5'3" tall but I don't consider myself "short". I am exactly as tall as I am supposed to be. Someone who is 6' is exactly as tall as they are supposed to be. Why should you let someone say you are "short"? What are you short of? OF being taller? Thats rediculous. Think about it.

I'm 4'9" and 23 years old. Some people think I'm a little girl sometimes when they first see me. I have back problems while I drive b/c cars aren't proportionately made for someone as short as me. People who are around 5'1" or 5'5" say they like standing next to me b/c it makes them feel taller. And all I heard through grade school is "wow, you're short" thanks like I didn't know that.
I do have a good sense of humor about it, I just don't like that I need help reaching things that people of average height can reach.

I was adopted into a large family of very short people, no one over 5' 4". Men and women alike, all of them seemed to believe it to be an advantage I think. My dad(5'3") and many of his brothers were always accomplished multi-sport athletes well into their 30's and 40's. My dad finally gave up baseball when he was 55. My sister and I both grew to be over 5'7", but they never tease us about being tall. I've witnessed many short jokes at their expense, but I really think my Dad likes the attention!! They are really the silliest, funniest, family ever!! Long Live Short People!!!

I'm 5 feet tall...that's it. I actually really like being short! My husband is 6-5 & so we look a bit mis-matched, but I think it does tend to be more of a gender based prefrence. A close friend of mine is 6 feet & she always says that all "us short" girls" took the guys in High school. Maybe the thing about guys feeling more masculine when they're signifacantly bigger than their women is true. I know that that's true for me, we women always worry that we're too big. I NEVER feel big next to my husband, I feel delicate & protected. Sort of old fashioned, but true.

I am 5'4, kind of average for a girl, but my boyfriend is also 5'4, considered short for a guy. He hates it, especially when I wear heels for a night out. Then all of his friends practically tower over him, and sports, well, not as easy when you're shorter.
And after a long time of hearing the same lame jokes from different people throughout the different stages of your life, it just gets old and annoying.
I think its much easier to be a short girl (especially as you grow older) than a guy.

I think in culture tallness is seen as a sign of genetic superiority.
I'm only slightly above average height (I suppose) for a female (5'6" 3/4...notice I put the three-quarters...lol). I always try to wear heels and things like that. I've always disliked it about myself. I suppose I should get over it already huh?
lol...

im 5 2
short is very cute, look at sara michelle gellar, britney spears,
im a tad more rotund then them but still, men LOVE my tiny hands, lips, ears, and feet
men have always complemented me on my small hands
it makes women seem much more feminine being smaller and brings out the protect and nurture instinct in men
people who make fun of short women are talking out their a**e
short men is a different story
men look better bigger, taller,
sad as it is, men are excpetced to be bigger than women,
it looks a bit odd when a man is the same size as me
its mostly short men who get the most fun poked out of them in my experience
and again, it brings out the being protected instinct in us women having a man so big, we feel safer
(maybe not something we know we feel but its in there, its in our instinct, far back as it may be)
i dont like being short sometimes because i cant reach shelves when my boyf whos like 6 2 can reach even the highest shelves, i'm forever shouting him in to get me things down, or climbing up on the sink to get to the shelf
he laughs at that
i feel like a midget
i used to be called midge, in my first year of secondary, as i was one of the smallest people in the class, if not the smallest
but i liked it then and look back with fondness at it as it made me memorable and noticeable despite being so small

For men it is different. For some stupid reason many men don't feel they are seen as "manly" if you are short. No man wants to date or marry a woman taller than he is and for men it can be a problem. It is a cultural thing I think. Not all cultures feel this way.
