I recently found an ACER external CD-RW drive, and remembered that I have a bunch of hard drives lying around. I got the idea of replacing the CD burner (which happens to be an IDE standard drive) for one of the hard drives that i have, and connecting it to my computer, turning it into an external hard drive. I'm wondering if anybody has done this before, and how can I manage to do this feat.

Unlikely to work, the USB drivers for that IDE controller are probably writted to ONLY drive THAT CDRW, might work with other CDRW, but NOT to drive a HDD.

Sorry, but not going to work most liekly.

However, feel free to stick a HDD in and try it, you never know it MIGHT detect OK under XP

DVD Fab Platinum. that is loose for 30 days. finished version. After the 30 days it expenses decrease than fifty dollars. DVD shrink is a sturdy device, yet is now no longer supported. DVD shrink now no longer handles the greater contemporary encryption.
