I've been in YA for less than a year, not sure the exact date, and I have asked one or two questions, but the answers I got were ludicrous and less than helpful. So I mostly answer questions in an attempt to get accurate information out there.

I don't know what constitutes a "Top Contributor", but I have almost 3,000 Points and 28% Best Answers. I've been here since January, but only started participating sometime around late winter or early spring.
I have asked 3 questions.
The first was about a technical problem with my stereo and none of the responses I got seemed to know anything about it. No one else had ever heard of the problem I was having. There were some good logical guesses, but none of them really fit with the nature of the problem.
The second was about a medical problem my boyfriend has. I got a few good suggestions, but here, again, nothing really stood out as a solution.
The third was about the methods of dating for ancient artifacts and other archaeological finds. I DID get some good and helpful responses on that one.
Mostly I enjoy answering questions. It makes me feel god to occasionally get a message or comment back that says I've really helped someone. It is a good way of establishing contact with other people - most of whom are probably not in the same demographic group that i am. It lets me "meet" and interact with people I would probably never meet and interact with in my regular day to day life. Oh, yes, and it helps me hone my writing skills and improve my totally pathetic typing speed.

I guess I am close to a top contributor...7000 points, 8% best answers, bunch of stars, since July, '07. As you can see, I mainly answer, rather than ask. I only ask if I have a reasonable, worthy question, not just to ask. Good luck, enjoy!

I USED to be a top contributor.
It has nothing to do with how long a person has been here (you can see that info for any user by holding your cursor over their image and reading the resulting popup window).
No, I don't ask many; I mostly answer.
It's answering that seems to get one the TC badge.
