If your PC has fans on the side and you cover them they can't blow air, so yes thats bad.
If your fans are at the back, not to bad but the side vents will still be slightly covered, try to keep a couple inchs space around the PC.
You want good airflow through the case to get cool air in and hot air out, this will make your computer last longer and less likely to crash.

Well, it can be hard to put wires through the desk into a small slot with a computer in the way. But that's really only an occasional head ache.

It can be a bad idea if you have a tower that gives off a lot of heat. My father has one he could heat a small room with. In a tower slot the heat might build up and cause parts to warp.

However, most computers don't give off that much heat, and it shouldn't be a problem.

Heat. When you enclose a system there is insufficient air flow to properly cool the cpu and motherboard. If you must put it in a tower slot, remove the back of the slot and make sure there are openings in the front. A lot of the newer systems also need air flow from the side so using a slot is almost a guarantee you will hoverheat the system.

It depends on how the desk is constructed. The concern is with airflow. If the back has paneling that doesn't let air exhaust properly that could cause problems. If there is a door on the front that can cause suffocation of the system. Just makes sure your computer can always get enough air circulation when it's on.

It's perfectly fine if you run a normal PC. Normal PCs don't generate enough heat to matter. The only time you would be concerned is if you ran a gaming system with a snazzy video card.

If you have a Dell, HP, Compaq, or other mainstream PC, don't worry about it. Take advantage of the slot.

You can put the tower in the tower case as long as there is plenty of breathing room for air circulation.

the only thing i can think of is being enclosed like that might make it warmer and not alot of air for the fan to circulate. other than that it's inconvenient because you can't get to the back where there are more usb ports. also if it means your pc is sitting directly on the carpet because the stand is open on the bottom it's not good. computers should never put on a carpet because of static electricity. overall id say not putting it there is good advice. you can put a board down on the carpet and put it on the board

Yes, it can be a bad idea. A lot of these desks have solid backs with only a small hole to let wires out of them. Some, like my dad's, have a door you can close over the front.

This means that your computer is essentially inside a closed box. There's no airflow.

Modern computers can get quite hot. They need airflow. That's why they have fans - to keep them cool.

By closing your computer in like this, it can overheat. Although you'd have to overheat your PC by quite a large amount to permanently damage it, lots of components can behave unreliably when they get hot.

The only thing that I'd be keeping an eye on is heat build-up in the enclosed space.

If it's well ventilated, you should be ok.
