Ok here it is. Last year we decided we would have another Christmas just to be different so we had the full works in February. This year we want to have a themed Christmas. We have thought of a beach theme, super hero theme and medieval. I am looking for any cool suggestions for our theme. Remember it has to be from start to finish. So food, costumes and all. I would be greatful for any suggestions. And dont forget there is kids involved lol.
Thanks

I just want to add. I watched religous people brain wash a close relative of mine and con every penny he had from him and left him to die so no religious themes. It may be everyones meaning of christmas but for me it is about the kids and not the the person who if he was real would not let all the past wickedness happen.

I like your beach theme idea. Last year I gave all the females a wish pearl, which would fit into the beach theme, and they not only had fun opening the oyster they like to ware it. I bought the wish pearls in bulk on ebay. http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=so&sbrftog=1&from=R10&_trksid=m37&satitle=wish+pearls&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&floc=1&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D1&sadis=200&fpos=ZIP%2FPostal&sabfmts=1&saobfmts=insif&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D1&coaction=compare&copagenum=1&coentrypage=search&fgtp=

I think having a theme is great-- I'm living in Oz and we do beach most years (cuz it's so flippin' hot!)...

Menu? Shrimp (yes, on the barbie, but not necessarily... and we actually call them prawns), crabs, green salad, sausages in bread rolls, nus and cheese, potato salad, if you're Aussie you'll have to have lots of beer, Watermelon. We tend not to do chocolates because everything melts.

Dress? Shorts, T-shirts, flip-flops (thongs), bathing suits. Make sure you have towels around and beach balls, maybe some Beach Boys music (here we use bush music-- Rolf Harris, Slim Dusty, etc., but that's Aussie), Jan and Dean, that kind of thing.

OH, and beach umbrellas. Donn't forget a big esky (cooler) with loads of ice and soft drinks, and a kiddie pool set up on the side would be great, too. A slippery slide-- you know, those water ones? And horseshoes to play, volleyball with a beach ball... kids will love this. Bucket and spade if you can get a sandpit.\ or create one in a tiny plastic pool. Don't forget to get shells off your beah before it's too late in the season and decorate with that too! Lei's will lend a beach-y feel because it will make people think "Hawaiian"= tropical breezes= on the water.

Hope this helps!

However, I can't go past the "no religious themes" (Although I wasn't planning to) because of the reason. People get taken by false prophets and bad guys. It's a fact of life because man has free will, and God lets "wicked things happen" because when you give, you don't take back. But then He gives us methods to cope-- we don't get what we're not strong enough to take. I believe that God cries when he sees what the man He made will do sometimes.

He does exist, and seriously, if you're looking at CHRISTMAS-- that's the reason for it, there is no other. You should just have a December party.

I'll pray for you to have a less harsh view; in the meantime, enjoy and be there for your children.

Christmas is not originally a Christian holiday, but a pagan one. It only became a Christian holiday a few centuries ago. To me, Christmas is about being with family and spending time with the people who mean the most to you. So, you definitely don't need to have a religious theme. Christmas is now a national holiday so no need to defend your reasons!!

What about choosing a country and using their Christmas traditions? It has more meaning because the kids not only have fun but they learn about other cultures and other traditions besides their own country's.

You can search online for "world Christmas traditions" or other terms like that and you'll find a number of pages with different ideas.

You could do a candy land christmas. Spray paint the christmas tree blue and yellow, (not on top of each other obviously). Then have all the decorations be candy....lollipops and bags of gummie bears....candy canes. Everyone can come dressed up as a character from candy land. Ex. King Candy, Grandma Peanut Brittle. Make a cake that has peppermints and jelly beans on it. have big bowls of candy all around the house. A big pinata with lots of candy. And have a secret santa. But the catch would be you have to get that person a candy bar or piece of candy. Then as they are exchanging ask why they chose the candy bar they chose.

Hi I dont do religious Christmases either and as my son was born on 22nd December we do a "pagan style" samhain Christmas - we take long walks in the woods and collect berries - rose hips are excellent for stringing on thread as garlands (and fun to make as a family) - holly, ivy, pine fronds etc. We do not have a tree (house is too small) but put decorations around the fireplace (with stockings) and lay presents in front of fire Christmas morning. This is eco friendly as all the resources are from sustainable sources and totally recyclable! It make the lounge and house smell wonderfully christmassy too! You can spray or paint fallen leaves and hang them from threads from the ceiling and on the windows. An excellent activity for the family with mulled cranberry juice and fresh baked ginger bread men!

Have a Charles Dicken's era Christmas - roast goose, smoking bishop, spotted dick, triffle, etc. Go out carolling in the neighbourhood afterwards.

We do a "Christmas in July" which is an outdoor BBQ but it not really a themed Christams pary per se.

How about the theme would be about kids. Usually kids are the most excited one during xmas. On xmas..how about costumes in kids clothes....kids play where the older ones have play...
question and answer portion ( questions where kids usually lke to answer)..this will be asked for the older ones.
Kids around will have their usual play. Hows that?

It sounds like you lost the meaning of CHRISTmas. The birth of jeasus is the reason we celebrate, If you want costumes why dont you dress like they did back then and do a manger scene in your front yard for the rest of the people to see.

why doesn't your theme be based on the birth of Christ and the year he was born . The foods , the clothing , . Isn't that what Christmas is all about , celebrating is Birth!
