Plasma is an ionized gas where the electrons in the atom are separate from the nucleus, usually considered to be the fourth distinct state of matter. A common application is the Plasma display, a flat-panel electronic visual display technology.

You mean the fourth state of matter, not fourth Element. When a gas get very hot and becomes ionized, it is said to become plasma. If you want to determine if it really IS a fourth state, the first three being solid, liquid and gas, then you need to look for latent heat. Ice changes to liquid, but if you measure carefully over time, you will discover there is a latent heat of fusion involved in converting solid ice into liquid water. Likewise if you heat water until it boils and gives off steam (gas) and measure carefully over time, you will find a latent heat of vaporization. If you superheet a gas (not water)until it becomes a plasma, do you see a latent heat of ionization? If yes, then it is a fourth state of matter.

The fourth state of matter. When the atoms lose their outer electrons and thus get ionised, they form plasmas. Normally ionised matter recombines with electrons and gets neutralised but at high temperatures, the ions are too energetic and thus the plasma retains its electrically conducting nature.
See www.plasmas.org for more information.

To put it very simply, a plasma is an ionized gas, a gas into which sufficient energy is provided to free electrons from atoms or molecules and to allow both species, ions and electrons, to coexist.... I copied that... an easier way to put it is Blood..plasma is the liquid portion of your blood... hope this helps...

It's the 4th possible state of matter (after gas). Most elements on earth can not reach this level, but it's more common in space. Basically it's when a gas is heated to such a level that the atoms begin to ionize (lose their electrons).

lol... the 4th element? You mean the 4th state of matter?
It's just a term for an ionized gas. This means that there are 1 or more free electrons present. i.e. they are not bound to an atom or molecule.

a state of matter. it's like a star or whatever and it turns into gas afterwards or something. Can't remember because it's not really talked about a lot. only sometimes. =]
