you need to connect to your router

go into your browser and i believe the default adress is
192.168.1.1

type your passwords

I beleive you can either block specific application or find out what port msn uses and blck the port number.

Google it and read some tech forums

MSN Messenger uses port 1863. You can block that, but MSN will send its traffic through port 80 instead. You could block that, but web traffic also uses port 80.

If your router allows you to block access to certain sites, block messenger.hotmail.com and users won't be able to sign in.

But then they can still use web messenger systems like ebuddy and meebo. So it's a cat and mouse game to try and stop people using MSN.

you can use any firewall installed in your system. just specify msn messenger in your blocked list. the procedure depends on which firewall you are using.

if you have windows firewall installed, i assume that it has already allowed msn messenger to access the internet. look at windows firewall's list of allowed programs, you will find there msn messenger. remove the check from the checkbox and apply the setting.

your msn messenger should now be blocked from accessing the internet

well by default MSN uses port 1683 but will default to 80 if its blocked and you can't block port 80 that web traffic.

do a search for the file "host" on your PC
add the following to the bottom and it will keep it from contacting the MSN servers

127.0.0.0 gateway.messenger.hotmail.com

If you block the main port that msm uses (1683) using a router, MSN is smart enough to send data on port 80 (the standard HTTP port)
