The six teens were charged shortly after the local prosecutor declined to charge three white teens who hung nooses in a tree on their high school grounds. Five of the black teens were initially charged with attempted murder, but that charge was reduced to battery for all but one, who has yet to be arraigned; the sixth was charged as a juvenile.

"This is the most blatant example of disparity in the justice system that we've seen," Sharpton told CBS's "The Early Show" before arriving in Jena. "You can't have two standards of justice."

So Jury doc, whats worse tuanting people or attemted murder.

To those arguing that it was NOT attempted murder: Attemted murder is just that, it has no basis on how injured someone was in the attempt. If I shoot at someone and hit the wall next to them it's attempted murder even thought there are no injuries to them.

Actually that depends on who you are. If you are Al Sharpton and the person is a minority then of course the crime they are charged with is a miscarriage of justice.
It kind of reminds me of the old rape standards where if you were wearing a short skirt you were asking for it; therefore no rape was committed because the victim was put on trial.

The disparity in the justice system is that three of those black youths have been on the short end of the law several times before and have always gotten off with just a litte slap of the wrist. Because Bell is a football hero, he should not be given just another little slap for sending a kid to the hospital for three hours of observation for head injury.

One of the best things that could happen to black and white America is to all pitch in for a lobotomy for Sharpton.

Some of you people are blind idiots. Violence was involved long before this white kid was jumped by the 6. Let's not forget about the black kid that was beat up at a party by a GROUP of white kids. That's why the white boy got beat down, to begin with. He was RACIALLY taunting the black kid who had been beaten at the party by a GROUP of white kids, none of whom have been charge with anything. Al Sharpton is not just talking about a noose being hung from a tree. It's about ALL OF THE EVENTS that have taken place and have NOT BEEN ADDRESSED SERIOUSLY until this white kid got a WELL DESERVED beating.

The only reason the whites weeren't charged is because the DA couldn't find anything to charge them with..what they did was dispicable, but not against the law....the black kids beating the crap out of the white kid is against the law. I'm not sure about the attempted murder charge though, it didn't sound like they beat him that badly...he went to some function later the same day.

The law says murder, but Sharpton says hanging ropes.
Based on our recent history, Al is NEVER wrong.
Ask the people who were disgraced by his comments in the Tawana Brawley case. If you wanna talk about a double standard, how about Don Imus. I never listened to him ever, but it was a serious case of overkill, considering that many of his broadcasts were insulting. Thats what he was paid to do.
How about the idiot "nation of Islam" representative who made the terroristic threats yesterday in a public forum. Whats gonna happen to that poor boy?

What is worse pointing a gun at someone or being shot by that someone you pointed the gun at, who is at fault. Why didn't the authorities get involved before it escalated to the point of physical violance. I believe that it was delibarate not realizing that times have changed & Amreica will not tolorate bigotry any longer Equal rights equal justice. [United we stand divided we fall].

I think keep bringing this up is worse. If we the people stop commiting on this then the news will stop covering it. Then and only then will the kids get a fair trial.

All that matters is who committed a CRIME.

The six punks who attacked the one kid committed a crime.
