Bare feet, because I have fallen several times in shoes while mopping.

In bare feet of course. Shoes would only add to the mess.

Barefeet or socks, usually barefeet because I hate socks. My shoes are dirty on the bottom from walking around outside. Why clean my floors only to instantly walk over them with dirty shoes, especially after mopping.

I wear houseslippers in the house.
I have a couple pairs, then I can wash a pair and wear a pair.
Reason being, if you go barefooted or just socks in your house, the oils in your feet can get into your carpet and discolor it horribly, and attract dirt.
I got new carpet three years ago, and the carpet still looks great because this is my rule in the house.

I do it in socks. They might pick up some of the stuff the broom leaves behind (or its all in my head). Bare feet will leave foot prints and shoes will leave dirt.

Shoes because if I have to walk where I mopped I don't want to get sticky!

I use rubber flip flops that I only wear indoors. Surely wearing shoes defeats the object and barefoot is slippery.

Shoes.
In the southwestern states, very few people go barefooted. Since we don't have snow, we do not take off shoes when we are in a house.
