Definitely try not to get induced. I was in your same situation and ended up giving birth to my little girl at 42 weeks. It was torture waiting two more weeks, but it was definitely worth it. Induction leads to c-section a large percentage of the time, so try not to get induced. Tell your doctor you do not want that, they cannot force you to do anything you don't want to. The most he's going to do is make you visit him/her twice a week to make sure the baby is doing fine, which he/she should be :o)

I'm 4cm dilated and have been for weeks and weeks... (I was at 38 weeks.)
I'm 4 days over due. And nothing for the past 4 days. And I'm still worried about going the 42 weeks and having to induce.
I really don't think that dilation matters. It shows that your body is getting ready for labor... but so does the fact that your baby is head down. I would just relax and try to be patient. Everyone's body works differently.
Hopefully we both start naturally. Best of luck to you.

My first came 2 days before her due date all by herself.
I actually didn't realize I was in labor for quite a while. Once the contractions got so painful I couldn't stand up straight I went on to the hospital.
It was kind of funny...I was at work that night and I kept thinking, "man, my stomach really hurts." Then I noticed that it was hurting every 10 minutes on the dot. Soon after that, I asked to go home early and of course they let me. By the time I had driven the 5 minute drive home I was in agony!
To my knowledge I wasn't dilated or anything. But I had had my membranes stripped the day before.
Good luck, and hang in there...only a little while longer!

I didn't dilate with my first pregnancy till i was 39 and a half weeks so that can be normal.
But to help labor start, progress ext here are some safe natural things you can do over the next few weeks to help stay off an induction.
1. Have warm bathes to help you relax - the more tense you are the longer your body will fight off going into labor
2 Have sex - your husband needs to ejaculate inside of you and he needs to spend a lot of time playing with your nipples - nipple stimulation and a hormone in semen both help induce labor.
3. Lots and lots of walking - drink plenty of water while you walk
4. Eat some good food (thick soup, or a stew), and drink plenty of water - your body will refuse to dilate from any contractions if you are dehydrated.
5. Lastly do some deep breathing and meditating - your own mental state (being so anxious) can be a cause for your bodies lack of labor.
Good luck

I've had 3 friends who just had babies in this past year and 1 of them went into labor at 39 weeks and the other 2 were induced at 41 weeks...so I really don't think you have anything to worry about. He'll come when he's ready

You are only 38 weeks. You have lots time to go into labour on your own. I had my daughter at 40 weeks plus 3 days.
Are you taking Evening Primrose oil? I took 3 x 1000mg per day. My cervix was 3cm before my labour began. It really helps soften your cervix. Your cervix may not dilate at all until labour starts. Don't worry and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. Your body will do all the work for you.

OK, you are having a little boy so it is very important for you to let him come on his own because boys are lazy when they are born and sometimes do not breath right away. Your little boy will have a much much better chance if you carry him full term. Girls are different and it is OK to have them a little early. Unless there is a medical reason i would not induce. I was the same as you at 38 weeks and i was so ready to have that baby. Nothing had happened until my 38th week visit and my water broke in the doc office. I still had not dilated or effaced at all but they had to induce because my water broke. I ended up being in labor for 16 hours and pushed for 2 hours before they finally gave me a c-section because he was just not coming. It will be alot easier if you can wait until you are fully dilated.

I was due on August 4th and he came on August 12th..!! I did not want to be induced, but my water broke and labor was not starting so they had to induce me. I wasn't even dilated at all! It took about 6 hours for me to really start dilating on the Petocin. I was in no pain though, they gave me Stadol for the earlier part and then I had an Epidural when that wore off, I had basically no pain, and I was able to sleep for the beginning part of it. I originally didn't want any pain meds, but after being hooked up already I didn't mind having them hook me up to more! It was a very good experience. They say babies who stay in longer tend to be smarter, more brain development. I don't know if being a week late helps, but my son seems very advanced to me and people who meet him!
I hope that helps! Just get a lot of rest before the baby comes!
