When my 4 week old sleeps, her little head becomes soaked with sweat. I dont overdress her, and the central air keeps the house at a comfortable temperature. The rest of her body stays dry..its just her head that perspires...?? Im worried having a wet head will make her sick...any ideas why this is? is it normal?

It's pretty normal for some babies. My little girl only sweat when she was younger if I overdressed her or overcovered her. My niece, who is one month older than my daughter, sweat no matter what. My sister would have her in a diaper and she would still sweat. She(my niece) is now 20 months and perfectly fine. If you can though, just dab the sweat of her head if you're worried she'll get a cold or close the vent for the a/c in the room the baby is so that the cold air doesn't get to her head :o)

A wet head will not make her sick any more than a wet head would make you sick--it wouldn't. That's an old wive's tale. May have been true in the 18th century, but keep in mind more than half of their babies died before age 2, they didn't use proper hygiene habits like we do now, their houses weren't well built, and people were generally eating a poor diet. So, even then, I doubt it was the wet head that got those babies sick. Don't worry about it, your baby is fine.

Sweaty heads mean the baby is too hot. If the room is comfortable like you said, the airconditioning is more than adequate etc, try lowering the temp a notch where she is. She likes it cold. What may be comfortable for the adults is still too hot for her.
Keep her sleeping clothes at a minimum, such as a cotton sleeper, or with a thin sheet instead of a blanket.
The only other problem that causes sweaty heads, which is unlikely in your case is some rare brain problem that is caused by prenatal absorption of toxic substances such as nicotine et al. Babies exposed to cigarette smoke are apparently more susceptible to these defective brains unable to regulate some functions as temperature adjustments.

if you kiss your baby on their head does the baby taste salty? if your lips taste salty when you kiss their head you need to take the baby to a hospital or their pediatrician immeadiately and tell them the baby needs a sweat test. because the baby may have Cistic Fibrosis my neice did this, and come back she did indeed have it. it effects the respitory system. my husband and i went through a scare with our daughter when she was a few weeks old, thank God it came back negative, but a year and a few months later our neice was tested at a few weeks old and she tested positive. this is nothing to mess with and they will require medicines and medical treatment their whole life but if properly taken care of now-a-days can live to be in their 70's. years ago they never lived to see their 5th birthday. good luck and best wishes.

My son ends up with a wet head when he naps (at 4 weeks old & still at 2 yrs old). He has even had a little heat rash on the back of his head from it. Most of your heat comes from your head (that's why you wear a hat in the winter). I think it is normal.

I think she is fine. Call your doctor if you are concerned, but I would not take her in unless your doctor says you should.

Congrats on your new little girl! Good luck!

Some children just sweat more than others.
RELAX!
If you can't, seek reassurance from your Health Visitor or Doctor.
