Please remove your "HDD", (Hard Disk Drive), from your computer. Sell your computer without the HDD, and have the new buyer purchase their own HDD. (HDD is not expensive).

No matter what any software company tells you about, bleaching, "Gutman", cleaning over the disk hundreds of times, any forensic expert can still strip the data off your HDD/

My suggestion is that if you have no need for your HDD, take a hammer and beat it to death. Then throw it out and you are 100% safe. No expert can strip any data from a HDD, that has been beat with a hammer.

If you have to save your HDD, like I do, then place in a safe or other safe place in your home.

Format/Delete the Harddrive completely. If you are including the Operating system (Windows) with the computer then do a reinstall. When you reinstall it and it asks you if you want to do a quick or full format, do a full. This resets the hard drive to all 0's. In other words there is absolutely no data at all on the hard drive. If you aren't including the Operating System with the computer then simply format the drive and once again make sure you do a full format. If you don't know how to do any of this there are instructions online or find a friend who is a techie.

Agreed with the above but even with a format of your hard disk information is still recoverable if someone really wants to. So if you are especially paranoid download a fully working version of Window Washer and run it on its highest security setting. It will overwrite all free space with random 0's and 1's (35 times) - apparently after running (which will take hours & hours) data cannot be recovered even by the FBI or Mi5
