Hmm, why isn't this in Philosophy or Religion?

Whether or not he exists, God is important; and the question of whether or not he exists is something everyone has to find out for themselves; because you can't borrow faith from anybody else.

We have here a huge universe, with amazing order and structure in it; and here we are, intelligent and able to understand the world around us, to make decisions, to understand what's right and wrong.

The importance of knowing whether or not God exists is this: If he exists, then there's a reason we're here. If he exists, then there could be more than just one life for us. If he exists, then there could be an ultimate Right and Wrong--something something our consciences are following when they tell us to do or not do something. If God exists, then there's an ultimate authority. Those questions are important because the way they're answered has an effect on every part of your life; and everyone has to answer them for themselves.

The universe had to start somehow. I won't get into the science of it; but the basic concept is that first there was nothing, and then there was something. That's where God comes in: He's the one that caused that Something. The universe is finite; it doesn't last forever. It's logical that there should be a cause to something that's finite; and the only cause that makes sense is something that's infinite--that is, God.

All of the religions of the world have God as an Ultimate Cause... but not every religion can be right. That's where you come in: It's up to you to decide who's right, who's wrong--even whether all of them are wrong and you need to figure out who God is for yourself.

The important thing isn't to find a religion that "feels right"... but to find the one that's TRUE. We humans have logical minds; and that's one of the most important uses we can put them to. After all, it doesn't matter how hard you believe something--if it isn't true, then it won't do you any good.

There's your assignment, then: Figure out whether God exists. And if you decide that it's probable that he does, then figure out what he's like, and how you can connect with him.

My personal answer to that question came at age 11--not coincidentally, the age when a child is first able to use abstract reasoning. I decided that God probably did exist; and that, if he did, Christianity was probably the best explanation of his nature.

But I can't tell you to just believe Christianity, even though I do; because you have to do the work in between: You have to believe it because you know it's true, not because somebody told you it was.

It's probably one of the most difficult problems you'll ever use your brain to solve, even if you're a rocket scientist or a famous composer... But it's a problem everyone has to solve; because otherwise we end up with directionless lives, not sure which decision to make next, just drifting through life on whims. And that's not really living... just existing.

There is an old quote that says "Had not god existed man would have found it necessary to invent him..." Voltaire belied that man needed the existence of god to use as a moral compass and yardstick.
Faith is that which is unseen but still believed...
I have an idea that there is a Creator...
Ideas are not stagnant things...and no one has waged war because of an idea... once there is belief then dogma sets in...and people become shameful, sinful and guilty and someone dies...so I have an idea that there is a Creator...

This is a great question!

I believe in God, and I think that God is important because people want to and need to believe in a force greater than themselves. People need to feel safe and secure in times that are very difficult and emotional.

Regardless of how much people believe in science, how many answers they can come up with that answer complex questions, I believe that there was something that started the whole cycle... and God was responsible for creating that little 'something'.

There is very little comparison to a celibrity to God since celibrities possess no real talent and no real accomplishments.

The belief in God negates a empirical and pragmatic view of the world which is very dehumanizing when applied to human beings.

Without God, then humans become merely a freak accident of nature and people then are merely the smarter monkey, instead of being special and worth respecting.

God is important because He made everything and especially You! And most of all He loves you enough He died for You to give you eternal life , he had to pay the ultimate price because of our sin {even unbelief } So yes He"s there waiting every second for you to invite Him in your heart with prayer and you will belong to him!!!

He's important to a lot of people 'cause it makes them feel like there's someone in charge. With some crazy master plan.

(but he doesn't really exist, don't tell anybody.)

Yes, He's there. He's important because He is the Creator of the universe. Without Him, we wouldn't evn exist.
