I don't think they are genuine, but in some cases they do serve a purpose. Mediums for the most part help people cope with the passing of a loved one. Whether they are speaking there own words or the words of the dead doesn't matter. I view it as a form of therapy. Alls people have to do is believe it. Its no different than being a certified psychological therapist, if you believe what they tell you it can change your life. Myself I am pro therapy, anti psychological drugs. ;-)

Certainly not all mediums are genuine. There is a technique called cold reading that many of them use like getting the letter F and letting you fill in who you know that died with the letter F.
I always suggest using the same precautions seeing a medium as you would seeing a doctor or a used car salesman "buyer beware"
However, the Harvard philosopher-psychologist William James believed he found a genuine medium named Leonora Piper that was never found to be a fraud despite testing in America and England and even hiring private investigators to assure that she couldn't acquire information by normal means.
That said I would say your best best today would be psychics that are willing to be studied by science. I have included a link below to the University of Arizona where they are attempting to study mediums.
One problem is how to separate information acquired from ESP from information acquired from a spirit.

I saw George Anderson 13 years ago, in NY, my 2 Grandmothers came through and my Grandfather, a friend and my 2 dogs.
All the information was accurate,on top it off he knew psychically I could not afford the coast of the session so he gave me back my money and did a reading for free, I will always be thankul.
Saw John Edward a few times another great psychic but did not get a reading i was at Norh Fork Theater

Sure. Some events such as 9/11 I had seen when I was around 11 years old. This was around 30 years before it happened. Look into Remote Viewing to better understand the possibility.

Are mediums genuine? Not usually but sometimes they are. Is the specific one you are asking about charging you for his/her services even if its just 'whatever you spare...?' I'd be leery of those, lass.
Best.

If they are genuine, how come they don't already know who you are and why you're there when you go to see one?
Only God holds the future and in (almost?) all religions it is considered mortal pride, or hubris or even sin to try to know the mind of God.
Just do what's set before you each day as well as you can and leave the future in the hand sof the Master.

I have never gone to a medium nor would I ever as I need the money they would take from me and my family needs the money more.
I am a Christian but this question has no factor in how I answered. I believe in other Paranormal things as I have encountered it myself and I as in a Paranormal group who investigates other things. From where I sit,
they are sitting down and laughing at all who go to them and more than likely are gossiping as well. If I were you I would forget your even know the word Medium, I do not trust them.

If mediums are genuine then why do they have to ask your birthday? Shouldn't they already know it? Also, why don't mediums win the lottery? Powerball is a good way to retire young around here.

Yes they are geniune. Some are better than others, just like people who play musical instruments.
Beware any that tell you the future though. It's never set in stone and they can cause you to manifest what they see. It's changeable with each new thought.
