A single living cell, respires, excretes, metabolizes, and reproduces. All of the needed components of what science calls life. If we could closely look at that fertilized egg at or just after conception, without harming it, we would see 23 pairs of chromosomes, not 22 pair like with dolphins or apes. So it must be human. That establishes to me that it is human and alive.
MissHichefhiedi,
While I would normally agree, I don't want government intervenng into my life, we are talking about a human life that happens to be inside another human. Killing the unborn child would be murder, and the government does get involved there.
Also, your "FACTS" are a bit uncoordinated.
Democrats do more to stop abortion? including emergency contraception. If you mean the morning after pill, that amounts to an abortion if conception took place.
I do not believe that birth control is an abortion, even though the Catholic Church does not believe in contraception, they do not equate it with abortion, you were mistold, misunderstood, or are misrepresenting the truth.
Also, most pro choicers are Democrats who never believe in personal responsibility unless it is a conservative caught doing something wrong.

you could no longer get a tubal ligation or a hysterectomy till you're over 21 and a minimum of have one newborn. maximum medical doctors won't preform this on any women who's rather under 30. maximum abortions are accomplished between 6-20 weeks, and are plenty low value. they're from two hundred-800$ Tubal ligation/hysterectomy can selection everywhere from 1000-3000$ there's a large difference in fee. in case you communicate an embryo "alive," then so are epidermis cells and micro organism and viruses. once you scratch your epidermis, wash your hands, or take anti biotics, you're ending a existence. in case you consume meat, you homicide an animal. You know, I agree with you except this:
"You can say it's ghoulish but that approach - having values shaped by religion but making arguments in non-religious terms - is exactly the way faith should be inserted into the public debates."
Don't throw your religion at anyone that doesn't want to hear it. Church and state are separate, and political decisions shouldn't be intermingled with faith. If you take this course you are going to alienate people on the basis of the faith that you have and they don't. I am an agnostic, and I am against abortion because, as you said, life begins at conception and destroying that life is murder. You don't need faith or God to see that.

As a true conservative, I do not believe that the government has the right to determine when, if, and who gets an abortion. That is not government's place. Also, I am pro choice. So you cannot speak for every conservative out therre, nor can you tell me that the leaders of your party really care about the issues.
FACT: Fetuses are destroyed everyday in fertility clinics...many used by 'pro lifers'
FACT: Democrats have done more to reduce the number of abortions, than republicans have (through education and free birth control, not to mention emergency birth control)
FACT: The pro life movement believes that birth control is abortion (I just went through all of the classes to get married.)
FACT: The pro choice movement does not promote abortions...rather they promote birth control and responsibility. And they believe that the government does not belong in the doctor's office.
YOU may not agree with all of this, but it is settled law of the land..and since it was UPHELD (abortion was NOT legalized by Roe...but rather, it UPHELD what women already had the right to...since the constitution was written) for over 30 years, the general concensus of america has been that the goevrnment does NOT belong in the doctor's office.
EDIT: Thanks for the email, don't forget to tell everyone that only methodists are valid...us catholics need to rethink our religion. (you know, catholics? The ones who INVENTED christianity?)

I don't have strong enough words to express how I am against abortion. Abortion is murder. How sad that there are those who are so blind to what they are doing. Justice may not happen here on earth, but justice will prevail. The liberal denies many teachings in the Holy Book, but denial does not make the teachings false or make them go away. Thou shall not murder...... How many ways can that be said? God have mercy on those who kill the little innocent baby. No, we are not imposing a particular theology on anyone. But what about morality? Ethics?

I'm Catholic, a moderate, and though I would not opt to have an abortion myself, unless my life were in danger, I'm pro choice.
Simply because it's not my decision to make. I have no right to pass judgment on someone who feels they are doing what is best for them in their situation. They will have to deal with their own conscience.
You believe life begins at conception, I believe it begins at birth. You have no right to tell me my belief is wrong, nor I yours.
I have issues with the pro-life movement because I HAVE been subjected to their harassment.
Walking from the parking lot to my doctor's office,...
That's right my DOCTOR'S OFFICE, not a planned parenthood clinic...
I've been called a whore and a murderer, shoved, grabbed, had pictures of dead fetuses shoved in my face...
I'm a murdering whore because I'm going for my annual exam and pap test, and being responsible by using birth control pills?
I'm sorry,.. that reeks of religion, and religion belongs in the church/temple/mosque, not out on the street.
Especially when it's being used to prevent a person from accessing medical care.

How do I feel about abortion?
I don't. Sorry, but it's not an issue that concerns me. It's more of a political ruse that politicians dig up every election cylce to get votes from either the Christian Right or the Feminist Left.

As an abortion survivor (so glad mom didn't have one) I am against abortion except under extreme circumstances. It is murder...no matter which way you look at it a life ends when it is done. A life that is unique and will never be duplicated again...a person, an individual.

I believe that abortion has its' place. That place is not aborting a birth because one was to dumb to use protection or because you just don't feel you can take care of the baby after it comes.
There are circumstances where this procedure is justified and the decision to have an abortion should only be made by the one that needs it done. This is something they will have to live with the rest of their lives.

No, because here's the difference. You believe life begins at conception. I don't.
That's pretty much it. I don't think it's a religious movement at all. It's an opinion of at what point you believe a fetus is alive.
It's fine if you disagree with me, I have no quarrels unless you try to justify your position using religion.
