Although I'm against the war, want our troops home ASAP and would like for them to have more 'home time' between deployments... I think Webb's proposal was unrealistic, short-sighted and dangerous.

The logistical changes required to track, deploy, redeploy and assign based upon individual soldiers' deployment term, rather than unit-level deployment for mission requirements, would have been a logistics nightmare. The military assigns personnel based upon military needs for particular skills, with the individual soldier as a 'body' to 'fill a slot'. Harsh as it may sound, that's the reality of the military, and a necessity when managing for complex missions.

In addition, this is a war-time Army staffed by volunteers (smaller overall force). Congress should NOT direct the military on HOW to assign personnel. That's just my opinion based on six years in USAF, but apparently enough held the same or similar view for the proposal to fail.

Because it was a transparently cheap and disingenuous attempt by the Democrats to force significant troop reductions without having the integrity to be honest about this.

It also was a disgusting attempt by the Democrats to interfere with the lawful duties of the President as Commander-in-Chief. It was an attempt to usurp Executive branch powers.
