Using a higher octane gasoline will not prevent deposits from accumulating in your engine. Using a higher octane gas will prevent engine knocking on cars that has a higher compression ratio. Basically, higher octane prevents premature ignition of the gasoline in the cylinders due to the engine having a higher than normal (normal means a Honda Civic engine) compression ratio. Oh, knocking is very, very bad for the engine.
Fuel additives like what Chevron markets as Techron will prevent engine deposits, not a higher octane.
Forturnatly, BMWs can lower the timing of the engine to accommodate for the lower than optimal octane in your car to prevent engine knock. But here is the deal, if you use lower than recommended fuel for your car, and your engine dies, BMW will pretty much void your warranty.
Use premium gas only. Premium unleaded is anything rated 91 or higher... it depends on what part of the country you live in.

As far I know, the gas stations I've been to only sell "unleaded only". It doesn't refer the quality of the gas, the octane levels are for that. Read your manual, it should say what octane to put in. My BMW requires Plus but I use Premium to get the best performance. As long as you put in the octane level that is required, you'll be fine. Any gas station should work, I don't know if one is really any better than another.

As it likely states inside the gas cover of the car, 91 Octane and up will work well with your BMW. Don't put the low grade gas in it.
Good luck!

Mine has a "Minimum" and a "Recommended" octane level on my gas filler door.
In any case, you should try your best to always use Premim gas on your BMW. The however car will get by with cheaper regular unleaded with diminished performance.
Also, try to stick with known gasoline brands, which are rated "top tier". These gasoline contain additives that would clean your engine and prevent gunk deposits that "discount" gasoline lacks.

all gas at gas stations are unleaded.
87, 89, and 91 are all unleaded, they are just different levels of unleaded.
technically any of those will work for your car. but the premium gas will give better performance, with less grime build up in your engine.
chevron is the only gas that bmw themselves have recommended

Buy gas with an octane rating of 98% and you will be doing just fine. All gas companies are very much standardised as far as quality and ratings go. You can fill up from any of the brands you have stated. Happy motoring.

Look at the manual. I'm pretty sure it calls for premium. I always buy Shell gas for my BMW, just because it is high quality with good engine cleaning additives in it.

high performance engines run hotter than typical engines. lower octane gas draws up into the cylinder and ignites and can cause damage.
Use what the Mfr reccomends for octane, dont worry about the brand
