At the same rate that Bush did? Will the GOP demand to know what their OWN party will do to curb these bad habits? Or have they resigned themselves to a democratic victory?

MEL: YOU ARE WRONG...If you recall, BUSH ran against putting a social security in a 'lock box' and wanted to privatize it. TWICE!!!!! HE counts it in his general ledger to make his OWN economy look better. I'm sorry, but I HAVE to take issue with flat out LIES.

I think they are already mad that the Democrats have taken over as the "Moral Majority" and are afraid that they are going to now be referred to as the party of fiscal responsibility since it has been so long that they qualified for that.

I will grant you that the GOP spent way too much money early on in the administration. However, that has been corrected (with a vengance!) and now I would be very wary of Democrats getting in office. At least the GOP gives lip service to not spending--Democrats (is there a good, short acronym for them like GOP?) unabashedly want to increase spending and raise taxes--both of which would be bad for the economy. Read the article I posted as my source, and you will see how Bush is cutting spending and trying to fix Social Security, which, btw, privatizing would be a good fix for. Look at how well it worked for Chile. When they privatized their social security system, it benefitted not only the Chileans in the system, but increased their economy and the economies of many of the countries around them.

No defense can be mounted in aid of the Republican spending spree.; and given the fact this currently led Democratic Congress has managed to out grope all that have come before, I'd say both parties are acting like crime families.

As with several issues, the Republicans are bad on spending, and the Democrats are even worse.
Not much of a choice.
PS There's a lot more to it than that, but I just didn't have time for a comprehensive answer. It's clear, though, that the Republicans lost in 2006 partly because they "lost their brand" as being tight on the purse strings.

hahaha, are you serious? What I am afraid of is a Democrat getting into office and turning our country into a Socialist state - telling me what I can and cannot do, and what to think. They are already doing this ... Look at the whole global warming concept, gay marriage, affirmative action . . . I don't like the idea of being brainwashed so much, and would rather not be forced to think a certain way . . .

No...Not afraid, but we have had enough of government growth and spending, even under Bush.
And No, a democratic victory has not been foretold.
Yes, I would love t.o hear how our
current White House contenders plan to reign it in.

This issue is complex for many of us.
But my personal theory is that privatization of government services provides at least two things that are good for American citizens: 1.) Competition means a lower bottom line for tax-payers. 2.) Competition means job creation for Americans. 3.) Privatization means the "big brother" doesn't get bigger.
I do not think you can approach this issue fairly if you do not distinguish between who is providing the services.

Thay are afraid that a Democrat will dip into Social security to make their debt look very good. Clinton did that. The Social Security was never meant to be used as it was not the Governments Money to spend. It belongs to the ones who have paid into it. i certainly did not appreciate Clinton taking my money out in order to look good.FACT!!!

I don't know if "afraid" is the right word. But basically yes.
That is what they are about.
Republicans favor smaller government with less taxes and government programs, and let people take care of themselves.
Democrats favor increased taxes, larger government and trying to control more aspects of peoples lives.

Republicans aren't republicans any more, democrats need to hone in their economic talk, but, I rather doubt they know how to.
