For the most part yes, but there is still some racism on both sides.

Hopefully we'll see the demise of racism in my lifetime.
And I hope gangs as well.

Yes. There are areas of the country where the races are fully integrated and get along very well. Mostly in California and New York.

I grew up and continue to live in the San Joaquin Valley in California, where whites only make up about 35-40% of the population. The rest are people from all over the world, including Mexico, Central & South America, Vietnam, Laos, India, Pakistan, Africa, etc. There are a few problems here and there, but most people show respect for their neighbors.

Extremely well, don't you know? In some neighbourhoods all it takes is a few upwardly mobile black families moving in down the street to get everybody falling all over themselves to sell their houses before the property value goes down.

Distant family of mine in Sacramento,CA told me as much when I was visiting. With raised eyebrows and looks that sought my complicity, they complained at having to look around for a new house again(absolutely nothing wrong with their 3 year old suburban house). Apparently the new next door neighbours were a black couple -and both were MDs, cardiac surgeons!! ¨ We're not racists¨ my relatives hurried to explain to me. We only want to protect our investments.

BTW,this is an ongoing problem in most countries where black and non black communities have to live together. Racism is not a one way street either.
I'd say perhaps Brasil and Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic are countries where there isn't a lot of evident friction and discrimination. I never feel hated for being white in these countries.

Jena 6, sad case. I don't quite understand why we don't get along better. In these times we live, we all need to drop the color issues and get on with the bigger picture. Racism is only keeping us divided as a Nation.
Peace

For the most part yes, there are still those wallowing in ignorance though.

Personally the only time I ever have a problem with someone else is if they threaten my life, betray me, steal from me etc… I am color blind as we all should be. The Left doesn’t agree with that though.

From the "progressive" website AlterNet-

None So Blind as the 'Color Blind'
No matter how many times a disturbed white male shoots up a school, church or workplace, bombs an abortion clinic or is arrested for being a serial killer, nobody raises questions like: is something wrong with white suburban culture?

Despite what you hear from the "activists" blacks and whites get along just fine.

If the "activists" would just stop reminding everyone that the human next to you should (or should not) be treated differently because of their skin color, I would bet racism would all but disappear.

I have a lot of black people who are good friends and we get along great. It's those who keep attempting to throw up the race cards who are the enemy, not those who have learned to respect and accept each other for who we are.

Depends on where you live. I live in Michigan, which is one of the most segregated states. Most whites live in the suburbs, while most blacks live in the city. Detroit is not a nice city; it's dirty, ghetto, and dangerous. So a lot of people here have a negative view of blacks because of where they live.
