The whole 'Jena 6' thing. I'm from Texas, and we had a couple of white dudes drag a black man behind a truck. I fully believe those white guys should've when to jail(which they did). But now, because its the other way around, we shouldn't charge the black students for nearly killing someone because they're white? Does anyone else see this as being completely wrong? I'm not racist, in any way, I have a mixed family, but this is ridiculous. I understand that the kids had hung a noose, but nothing was ever said about why they were hung! (the nooses)

I just don't understand how the Church that is going down there expect to make their case. Regardless of their color, they still beat someone practically to death. Does anyone else at all agree with me?

*If you get offended, then your the wrong one.*

I mean, they BEAT A KID TO PRACTICALLY DEATH!

What is there not to charge with the above statement? Color shouldn't matter! The church is bringing more light to the color differences than the police was, either way THEY ALMOST BEAT A KID TO DEATH!

lovelady : No, I'm sorry, I only read that the kid was injured and that the church was making this a racial thing. Even if the kid wasn't almost killed, even just beatin up, I think everyone should be tried as individuals, not as colors.

I am not racist I hate everyone equally! And besides if they beat the white kid they should go to jail for lynching's and if the white boys drug the black boy they should be in jail for attempted murder or murder (I don't know if he lived) Anyway, A crime is a crime, OJ got away with murder because of who he is and the color of his skin...but Karma will come back and bite you in the As$ so OJ is finding out! I agree with you completely! The crime was based on color HOWEVER the punishment should not be! And to the poster that said something about well a gun got pointed at a black kid and a black kid got beat up at a party.... Why do you have to say "black kid" why not just "kid" Its people like YOU who make it a RACIAL thing...lets concentrate one word that has been mentioned here several times..."KID" they are kids and are only acting the way they were taught to! And lets face it...its a well known fact....especially in the south....blacks, colored people, African American, whatever name you prefer usually don't get as hefty a penalty as a Caucasian. You can get mad at me all you want but its the truth and the truth hurts! No one no matter what color or creed should be treated any differently in the court of law....but it happens everyday! The only thing we can try and do is educate our children and teach them that color is not the issue. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you! People should not commit these crimes but when they happen, we should see that there is a serious problem and the only way to correct it is to educate and teach!

From what I see, the one kid was 16 and should not have been tried as an adult. Here in Michigan, under 18 usually means "boot camp" for 90 days, probation until age 19. For certain felonies.
Now I'm hearing the one that is in jail has a record. Amazing that it hasn't been posted yet.
I'm white. Not a racist. Just from seeing pictures of the guy that got beat up you can see he is a trouble maker, not some innocent looking geek.

The other thing that bothers me is why haven't any facts been presented as to what the white dude did to prompt the beating ????

I don't know ....

I saw the kid next to the prosecutor this morning, and he didn't look almost dead to me. If I understand it correctly, the same thing happened in the same town a few days prior with the races inverted, and the white kids involved got off pretty lightly.

Fighting is wrong. Yeah, they should face charges. Yeah, I think there isn't much chance that they are not guilty. And they should therefore face the appropriate punishment. But make sure that an equal measure is applied to all.

i agree i'm not racist either and i beleive that they should go to jail, but if you notice at least where i'm from, that they are now being more strict on the whites than the blacks. like where my parents live at, they have shoes dangling off of power lines and kids, i mean some as young as 10 yrs old, out on the corner selling or doing drugs, but the cops don't even have the courage to come there unless they have at least 3 guns (it is where whites are minority)! but when i was younger the cops would always try and start something with my friends and me but never with the other race guess they are to big of pussy's to do anything. Yeah i think they should all rott in a jail cell just like the white kids where you are from.

I completely agree with you... and i guarantee if it were 6 white guys that had beat up a black guy there'd be hell to pay and the black community down there would do everything they could to put the 6 white guys in jail for a very long time. It's a complete double standard and they really need to get over the whole "we were slaves and the government owes us", it's 2007, stop bringing race into this, who cares if they were black, white, red, or brown... it was 6 guys beating the sh** out of one guy.. how fair is that?????

Yeah the whole thing is bulls*t to me. I cant stand to see stuff like that. And this is a bad year for black men, I mean really; Mike Vick, PacMan Jones, Mr. Thomas (NBA coach) OJ (again) its never ending. And everyone wants to say, oh its a race issue. But when you're wrong, you're wrong and you gotta except that sh*t. Do the crime pay the time. We cant change this world, we can only live in it. Things aint gonna change until this system is over. God help us all.

We had an issue were I live were several boys beat a kid to death, not like kind of almost killed him, no, they killed him. And people watched it happen, and no one stopped it and no one tried to do ANYTHING. Did anyone go to jail for it? NOPE.....

Any crime is a crime, no matter color, age, gender..whatever.

I think action should be taken, but at the same time....I would have defended myself too, if some crap like that went down...

I dunno, it's not gonna change anytime soon, which is sad.....

I am with you, everyone seems to have forgotten "do the crime, pay the time". I will grant you our justice system is really something special sometimes, but damn right is right and wrong is wrong. 6 on 1 in any situation (Black, White, Asian, Indian, Mexican, Iranian ANY nationality) is grounds for a jail sentence.
Why do we insist on loving these idiots that commit major crimes, they should not be our idols!!! Lock them up throw away the key and forget about them.

I agree, color shouldn't matter. My husband is from Pine, Louisiana and when we lived there it was like stepping back in time about 50 years. It's hard to believe, but he remembers when he was little (about 38 years ago) there was a sign in town that said "No ******* after dark". (Please excuse the language) What a world we live in. We still have some changing to do.
