So while my toilet was flushing the other day I went to pop off the holder and it flew right into the toilet as it was flushing. I didn't think it would go down, but there it went, right before my very eyes. Obviously it's stuck. I can't feel it if I put my hand in the bottom, but it can't have gone far. I had Roto Rooter come out and they wanted $165 to just *see* if they could get it out and $250 to unbolt the toilet to get it out. Anyone have any MacGuyver ways I could possibly get this out without having to empty my wallet for such a ridiculous predicament?

What piece exactly is gone? Is it the spring loaded bar that goes inside the roll of paper? Is the toilet not flushing down as a result?

If it is that center bar it is too long to make the turn at the top of the toilet's internal siphon loop and is probably stuck at a reachable place in the toilet itself. If it, by some miracle, has gotten past the toilet and fallen into the large vertical drain pipe and the toilet is still flushing well then just forget about it because it will not bother you and might even be washed away into the street mains.

If it is stuck in the toilet loop try this before you do anything involving removing and replacing the toilet. Go to a store like Lowe's or Home Depot and try to find a flexible claw.

Here is a photo I found on the web http://www.ebay.com.my/viItem?ItemId=230165153291#photo
It is a long flexible body and a button on the end you hold. When You push the button three claws open up on the other end that you could use to grab things.

Push it into the toilet opening until it contacts the stuck piece. Open the claws and try to grab it and pull it up from inside the toilet.

Before going through such drastic measures (i.e. calling the plumber or dismantling your toilet) I would recommend going to a Lowe's or Home Depot type store and see if they sell replacements. I'm pretty sure they do. Just measure the width of your holder that is on the wall so that you get the right size.

1).Buy a Generic Pipe-Cleaning tool
2). Open up the Cover of your Sewage outflow(Normally on your Drive or somewhere in the garden-Depending on where your Outflow goes).
3).Dam the outflow, Poke the U-Bend,Flush and then get a Friend to catch the toilet roll holder as it comes down the Outflow.

Hope this helps.

Turn off your water supply; then have a strong friend unbolt the toilet, lift it off the floor and see if you can reach the toilet paper roll from the bottom of the toilet.

Sure is a crappy situation, isn't it?

Only two bolts hold it to the floor and one nut to the water line.

Go on line and see what a cut-away diagram of a toilet looks like.

If the holder went through the toilet and into your main sewer line, it may have slid on thru to the city sewer. If it gets crosswise in the line, you have problems

If it was me, I would flush many many times then watch and see of any...any line in your house is backing up. If not, you were lucky.

If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.
