Didn't he just deploy 20,000 more 6 months ago? Why is this a big deal to anyone? Does he think that americans are that ignorant? Last but not least a friend of mine is being deployed to Iraq next month. So people are constantly still being deployed. Isn't this the purest form of propaganda?

The ones being deployed now are relieving ones that have been there and need a break. They have to rotate them for their well being. The surge was done in order to meet objectives more quickly, and now that it seems to be working in some areas, it is possible to bring some of them back. Its not propaganda, just how it works. The numbers were increased, and are now being cut back, but the fact still remains that the troops need to be rotated. No soldier should be expected to be deployed and remain for 5 or 6 years, or indefinitely. Two of my firends have already been there twice, one is getting ready to leave on his 3rd deployment. They need a break.

Yes we did deploy extra troops - called the surge.

They sent the troops, Petraeus did the report Congress demanded after six months, Petraeus said the surge worked and violence is down so we can start reducing troops. Hence removing troops.

Your friend being deployed is probably replacing someone so this has nothing to do with overall troop levels.

Yes. He deployed 30,000 troops in March. Now they will reduce our troops by 30,000 by the beginning of next summer, leaving a total of 120,000 troops, the same as we have had for the last four years. Does George think we're ignorant? Signs point to yes. Is George arrogant? Signs also point to yes,

Listen to what the President said, rather than fly off the handle. Of course the US government would like to withdraw troops. It may take another year to get around to reducing the forces. If the fighting stops, Al Qaeda gives up, and the Iraq government gets it's act together, the withdrawal could start tomorrow.

The number of troops in Iraq will go down 5,500.

People still go. People come home.

What's hard to understand?

Interesting, funny how things happen at election time. There was an old song"Don't let the smoke get in your eyes"
It should be renamed, Dont let the smoke get blown up your butt.
