Butch is a manly looking woman, or a tomboyish woman, or a lesbian. People might say Rosie O'Donnell is butch. It's not a nice term.

There are lots of ways to use the F word -- and not all are vulgar. Historically, it was the Old English word for having sex. The reason it is now considered vulgar is because when the Normans invaded England, they brought their own language with them & incorporated it into English. Anyone using the old words were considered vulgar.

For example, the Old English word for Nose is Snotte. The French word is Nez -- which became Nose. Snotte became used for two more vulgar things -- Snot and Snout.

They are just words. I've found that two types of people use the word a lot -- those who have little respect for language, and those who have great respect for language. Those in the middle pretend to be offended.

As for Butch -- it is a Lesbian (women who prefer other women to men) who takes on a manish appearance. They often have men's haircuts and wear flannel shirts.

yes it is sad to hear such diction. i also find when the word gay is used as an expression or out of context i find it to be very offensive.
i think that such vulgar originated in people to supposedly make them seem tough through a potty mouth. but with those influences on society, today it is common for one to say offensive and bad words. however the definition of many words have been altared to a point so that it is not offensive. i personally try my hardest to refrain from such diction.

I know what you mean and some days, i am guilty of dropping the f bomb more than I should. It has become an every day word and that is not so good with the society in general.

A butch is a term used to describe a very manly, very plain, homosexual woman.

people are more comfortable expressing their anger freely, rather than playing along stepford wives-style. and a butch is a term for a lesbian woman, also used as an adjective

in the 1600's the word "awful" was the worst vulgarity you could say.
you can see from that how we create out own taboos which in essence mean NOTHING.

Dunno, but when working in heavy manufacturing there is simply no substitute for the F word.

It's versatile too. Noun, verb, adjective - it's like the Swiss Army Knife of curses.
