Have you ever watched the horror movies, Saw? I'm curious to know if anybody's actually had a similar experience to the ones in the Saw movies...well...okay, maybe not such experiences like medieval torture devices threatening to kill you. No. I'm talking about more realistic experiences when you thought you were GENUINELY dying & you were so terrified that you found yourself regretting things you may or may not have done, promising to be a better person if you got through it, etc. It happened to me.

Last month, I accidentally came into contact with a person's blood on my hands. I was in absolute terror for weeks, believing that I'd caught Herpatitis, aids, etc. I finally went to the doctor & was cleared of such illnesses. The experience had been so terrifying & over-whelming that I found myself being more grateful for life than I've ever been. I swore from that day forward to be a better person & to cherish every waking moment.

Has such an experience happened to you?

GONZO. I have to remember that there was an Aids scare back in 1987? How could I remember that? I never knew anything about that until you told me just now. I was only 3-years-old in 1987, LOL! But, I guess you learn something new everyday, huh?

being active during the aids hysteria of the 80's circa '87. i thought i had been infected because i got a funky rash. you have to remember that there was a lot of panic back then, talk of drinking brought down your defenses to combat disease. you could get it from open mouth kissing. it was in tears and sweat. very ignorant age. well i hooked up with someone, and when she left, she gave me a very disturbing goodbye. never ran into her again of course, so i was scared ****less. got tested, had a very judgemental doctor, not a good experience whatsoever. anyway, i swore (at the time) i would never engage in risky behavior again. luckily, the test came back negative, and of course, i lied.

that's the thing, human beings always take life for granted. that's our curse.

I think the premise is very clever and does make a point. Perhaps a bit buried in all the blood and gore but certainly the whole idea is very intriguing.

I think what you talk about is interesting but something I think should be added is not as much we don't value life enough but that don't always think about why we want to live. Sometimes I think thats the biggest problem. Even if we could do all the things we wanted to do would it make our lives richer and more beneficial. Sometimes the mysteries of what we will miss in life will be terrible but if we cannot lose the fear of death we will never enjoy it.

On another note glad to hear you were cleared of any illnesses. A friend of my sister's found out he had slept with a woman in his past who found out a few months later that she had contracted AIDS and luckily he was wearing protection but certainly no guarantees. The wait he said was one of the worst periods of his life and the relief to find that he was fine was incredible.

Absolutely we take life for granted. If we took time to appreciate what we had, I don't think the world would be in as much conflict as it is today.

I can't think of any experience that I've had like yours or that of the people in the movie, but I know that there have been times where I found myself very grateful of my life.

Nothing has ever happened to me like that, but that's definitely why I liked the first Saw movie so much, although it didn't explore that theme quite as much as it might've.

Also why I hated the second so much, it was rather senseless killing with not much chance to get out.

You should see Hannah and Her Sisters, Woody Allen goes through a similar experience

I like the SAW series, Jigsaw gruesomely making a point with his torturous traps, teaching people not to take their lives for granted & such.

Hasn't happened to me, no, but I do try to live each day as if tomorrow was going to end.
