Every new experience can be scary if you let it be. Becoming an adult was not scary, the stupid stuff that can happen to you as an adult can be. The scariest things that ever happened to me were that my parents passed away (not at once) and I realized that I was "it." Mom and dad won't be there for advice, money or hugs. When you compare adulthood to that, its actually not so bad. But you shouldn't have to think about that for many many decades. Just enjoy being a kid and be nice to your parents. They really love you and want you to be happy, even when you think they're being mean.

It should be something to look forward to as you are finally getting control of your own life. On the other hand, you are preparing to become financially responsible for yourself and realising what you can and cannot afford and how best to spend your money will be something you'll gain experience of through trial and error.
People mature at different rates: I have known some young people that can handle responsibility better than I can and I'm 34, so being adult is really a state of mind more than anything else. I think that the thought of growing up and being seen in a different light in the eyes of the rest of the world isn't easy for anyone.
You can still have fun as an adult - please be reassured of this! We might all look sombre to you but we are often quite frivolous on the inside.
I don't know if you are the type of teen who has a plan for your grown-up life or if you a drifter like myself. I have ended up as a chef but am not accepting that as final and am now studying IT and this will hopefully lead me into pastures new. You are not obliged to do much of anything with your life, so in truth it is only as hard as you choose to make it. Life will be more interesting however if you determine to explore anything and everything and to live life to the full. Be prepared to step outside your comfort zones and accept challenges as they are presented to you. Overcoming your fears is the key to having a rewarding, satisfying life. I wish you all the very best of luck and hope all your dreams come true.
(Carsin K: If you've got something to say, just say it in plain English, yeah?!)

LOL yes it can be. But i think life in general is actually quite scary. Being an adult isn't so bad. Just remember life is only scary if you make the wrong choices. People however percieve different things as being scary. Gd Luck...

I suppose it is scary to kids. However, as you get older, you can experience and confidence that help you learn to handle adult life responsibly. That's why childhood lasts so long--adult life requires a couple of decades of preparation. You'll find that as you approach adulthood, the idea of it is less scary.

Pretty damn terrifying. Actually, I've only been an adult for five years. It sucks, yeah. All the decision making is up to you and you have to grow up and get smart. You have to use wisdom and if you haven't got it, you'd better damn well acquire some. It is scary, but you've got plenty of time to adjust to your role. Take your time and don't shun wisdom from those who know what's really going on.

Yes, being an adult at times can be very frightening. But it's what you bring in to this new stage in your life that makes it. Learn all that you can, have convictions and morals, Just be yourself in responsible manner, It's really not that scary, Just something new. We all grow up, just be true to yourself.

It is scary sometimes because people expect you to have the answers when you don't...
But once you are an adult you can choose what to eat, what to wear and where to go - which is great.

It's less scary when you go to college. It eases you into independence and when you come out, you'll always have a degree to fall back on (less likely to be unable to find a job.)

It is often frightening.
You have no safety net. No fallback. Nothing, except what you bring to the table yourself.
You are responsible for your own actions. You can't just wish away issues... You are it...
