Ban Ki-moon, the UN secretary general, said: "There are 1.4 million people in Gaza, including the old, the young and the sick, who are already suffering from the impact of prolonged closure. They should not be punished for the unacceptable actions of militants and extremists. I call for Israel to reconsider this decision."

Israel has the right to defend themselves, however they are only hurting the innocent people, not the terrorists, they are going to keep kicking and this will only incite there angry even more.
I know it's anti-semetic to question anything Israel does, as well as anti-american to question anything the U.S. But Israel is wrong and I know that they are not feeding or clothing the people in the Gaza Strip.

that is user-friendly because of the fact on the UN the place a super type of those issues are in many cases dealt with, the U. S. in many cases merely vetos something which feels like a concern for Israel. that's the way the UN grow to be set up back in c1944 pre-D-Day in actuality and it includes the unique individuals who're, u . s ., united kingdom, Russia, France and China - all of those countries have the veto and use it often whilst human beings positioned up something with which they do no longer agree. The above countries type what's commonly used as "the protection Council". there is likewise another u . s . a . which joins the protection Council each 3 hundred and sixty 5 days as a non everlasting member, it too gets a veto. So, there you have it. permit's faux you are the rep for some Arab u . s . a . on the UN and you introduce a bill or in spite of to tick off Israel for construction extra residences on Palestinian land. ok, i'm the U. S. Ambassador to the UN. i'm no longer even gonna telephone abode. VETO. job accomplished. desire the above enables clarify the area. The UN isn't democratic in that the means (genuine means) is held by the protection Council individuals, all of whom have a VETO. finally, the final be conscious from Charles DeGaulle - non.

The collective punishment of civilians is truly uncivilized behaviour. It will not result in anything else but but more violence and chaos.
Israel's strategy is to continually foment rage and anger within the Palestinians such that they fracture into separate, distinct groups. This serves to promote Israel's agenda of "controlling" their Arab charges.
What Israel DOES NOT want, is a unified Palestinian state, for that is what they fear the most.
Similarly, I suspect the US adopts the same tactic in dealing with Middle Eastern policies. We seem only to encourage the fracturing of ideologues in hopes of promoting a fractured Arab front. Perhaps this is the overall goal of Iraq. ("bring 'em on") It is possible that we never truly wanted peace, or a functioning Iraqi state because that would only lead to a more unified position.
Given the history and outcome of the US-Israeli policies, not to mention the pure pain and suffering inflicted to innocent children, I feel our actions are both foolish, and barbaric.
I don't see how anyone in the Middle East could look at our rhetoric of "promoting peace and democracy" as anything but a lie. The West has NEVER allowed true freedom to exist in that part of the world.

The person who said you were racist is wrong. You are not racist for expecting Israel to follow international law, or for criticizing a country. If one were to criticize France, would they be called a racist.
Seems that there's free rein to insult, ridicule and be racist against the Arab population, but any mention of a secular state being wrong, then you're dubbed 'racist'.

Yes, we all know that international law would prefer that the Israelis cheered on the Palestinians and their elected terrorist government Hamas as they launch their daily rockets towards Jewish day cares in Sderot. how dare those evil Israelis think they have the right to take punitive measures of terrorist actions on the people who elected a government that actually states in its constitutional charter that "there is no solution for the Palestinian question except through jihad" and "Israel will exist and continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it."
It almost makes you think that Hamas was elected because the Palestinians want endless war, not peace.

Ok, for the uninformed dolts who think there is no law being violated:
"The decision was described by Palestinians and international agencies, including the UN, as collective punishment, which is ILLEGAL (emphasis mine) under international law."
It would help for some to read the actual article for jumping the gun to unequivocally support the Isreali government's heavy-handed tactics.
To answer the question at hand, the Israel gov't believes it is above the law and it plays by its own rules as long as its US backers continue to support it. No matter what resolution or doctrine is drawn up in the UN, all it takes is one veto (US) to kill it. Enough said.

Excuse me, but let Egypt take care of its brothers in Gaza, if the international community wants to send aid to Gaza let them do it though Egypt.
Israel has no responsibility, moral or otherwise, to help Hamas who have declared they are in an open state of war with Israel and allow rockets from territory they control land in Israel proper.
And if your going to make threats about another intifada maybe you would like another Nakba as well.

It is in the interest of Israeli security to ignore UN 'mandates' that could or would leave them open to increased attacks by the palestinians, which have never followed the mandates set upon them so it is only natural that Israel tell the UN to kiss off.

I would probably guess they are starting to get tired of having rockets blindly shot into their territory daily. Hard to believe all the talk of peace homemade rockets have been fired daily for over a year into Israeli territory. I don't doubt that is suffering on the Gaza side, but when will enough ever be enough?

There is enough blame to go around for all parties involved...at some point all sides are going have to realize a few things.
For the Palestinians....... Isreal is there and will continue to be there.
For the Isrealis...... The Palestinians are there and will always be there
For Both....... you are NOT going to end up with everything you want, and if you would stop killing each other and simply negotiate the quality of life for both your citizens would improve vastly.

Actually, how could it be illegal, unless gaza belonged to israel ?
As a soverign nation, does Israel have the right to supply power, to who they want to ?
Gaza isn't part of israel, if the palestinians want electricity, let them build their own power plants.
I wonder why israel provides them any power at all.
let them get power from Egypt.
So would egypt not supplying power to gaza be a violation of international law too ?
Now when israel occupied Gaza, then they has a legal duty to provide power.
But since they no longer occupy gaza, they have no legal duties toward gaza at all.
Ir makes ya wonder, why Israel lets any palestinians into israel at all.
There is no international legal reason for allowing them into israel.
