Before the Red Sox got Gagne, the bullpen had a good rhythm with Okajima in the 8th and Papelbon in the 9th. Then they acquired Gagne and it seems the bullpen has been going downhill ever since.

That's probably an overstatement, mostly because Gagne hasn't been able to pitch effectively very often. When the Red Sox have been ahead for the last few weeks, it's usually still been Okajima and Paplebon. Gagne hasn't been able to help much.

More to the point, the Red Sox probably were hoping Gagne could help reduce Okajima's workload. Now he's out with a tired arm.

One consolation -- first place really isn't that important in the grand scheme of things. The playoffs still await, barring a history-making collapse. So better to get everyone ready for October.

We all have 20-20 hind sight and it is looking like Gagne is a shell of what he once was. The Red Sox were in need of another arm in the bullpen and he was available at the time. I would classify it as the right move that didn't work out as planned. However, there is no way you can lay all of the problems the Red Sox are having now on Gagne.

Without a doubt the acquisition of Gagne messed up the Red Sox bullpen. They were on such a roll and had a low ERA and now with him, the ERA for the bullpen has gone up one whole run! I realize that Okajima and Papelbon havent helped that their last two outings either but, before Gagne came, things were better.

There's alot of merit to that statement. Gagne hasn't personally found a rhythm in the American League, and his lack of performance has seemed to screw up the Red Socks bullpen. Look in the end we can only look at the numbers and the performance, and since his signing, it hasn't been great.

No it did not ruin the bullpen, remember last year, pap started to slide at the end of the season, it is happening again, Gagne is not healping, but he is not the reason for failure.

Blame the guy throwing the ball.

I would do it all the same again, Gagne is way better than this.

nicely, he would not desire to close this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days reason he can in user-friendly terms pitch each 2 or 3 days. So i do no longer see Billy getting mad a Papelbon reason for that this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. i think of he's conscious his function and is commonly used with of that he ain't gona close this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. Billy's gona be genuine stable for the crimson Sox this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days whilst he does pitch. His stuff regarded electric powered, and he would not appear like he lost something on his stuff. the only turn away for the crimson Sox is that he can in user-friendly terms pitch each couple of days. He can likely even close at cases if Papelbon won't be able to decide for some reason. i think of that commerce grow to be stable for the two communities. between the lads we've been given in that commerce regarded especially stable interior the minors. the only factor for the crimson Sox is Papelbon's reaction to Wagner. i do no longer think of him and Wagner are gona be stable acquaintances.

It definetly ruined the bullpen. GAG-ME has done nothing but blow leads for us. Bad move on Terry's part leaving him in the other night against the Jays with bases loaded. Yeah Terry is right ins aying it is his inning to get out of, but we can't afford to lose games right now. He is washed up.
