Before bidding an anything, always thoroughly check the sellers previous history and look for repetitions of complaints.
Every seller will have some bad feedback, but it's not always deserved as some buyers leave negative FB for no other reason than spite.
But regular bad feedback that is for the same kind of issue is a dead giveaway that it's a bad seller.

Dear, congratulations on becoming an eBay member. I’ve the following advices for you as a buyer & as a seller.
1)First of all do not try to log in into your eBay account from various computers. I mean always try to log in from your home or office PC. Also keep changing the password every fort night & keep a very strong password.
2)Before bidding on any item, search for the item on various sellers so that you get the cheapest item (not paying more than worth). Check seller’s feedback score. If the seller is having lesser score do not bid on it.
3)Always read the entire thing mentioned on the listing, e.g. the item description, charges, specially shipping rates, etc. Use PayPal for paying to the seller or if possible cash on delivery.
4)It’s always good to contact the seller & clear your doubts before you bid. Also if you have accidentally bid on an item, contact the seller immediately & ask to cancel your bid.
5)In case, after paying to the seller & it has been around 10 days or more the item has not reached you & there is no contact with the seller, immediately report to eBay via email & on Live Chat. Whenever you write to eBay write from your registered email address.
6)Advices on selling on eBay:
i)To create a seller account you need to provide your credit card, checking account details & when listing an item you need to give PayPal account details. If you do not like to go for this, you can go for ID Verify. Wherein you will be charged a$5.00 non refundable & also note there’re no monthly charges for keeping the eBay account active.
ii)When you list an item you will be charged the listing fees, (Insertion fees) & if the item gets sold a Final Value Fee. The best method to pay your seller fees is PayPal. The other methods are: Credit Card / Direct Pay / Check payment / Money Order. The worst part of Direct Pay is if the payment is returned when eBay tried to charge your account you will be charged a $15.00 fee. So, to be at safer sides do not use Direct Pay as your payment method.
iii)Keep checking your My Messages under My eBay. When you are submitting your listing verify the charges. As the charges will appear at the bottom of the page of the listing. Also when you’re listing an item check it on the search page if the similar item has been listed & what is the cost set.
iv)You can avail the free listing promotion offer till the end of the month, where in if you use the gallery feature & list your item you will not be charged the insertion fees. That is you can list your item free. Also whenever you receive any promotion emails please read the details and then go for the promotion.
v) If your items has not been paid form the buyer & it has passed 7 days, do not forget to file an Unpaid Item Dispute so that you will be eligible to receive the Fianl Value Fee credit. Always leave proper feedback to your buyer & to your seller. Also set buyer requirements for your listings.
Hope these will help you & the other yahoo members.

charlie baby,
ebay is as safe as YOU make it.
if you are buying on ebay, ALWAYS
pay through PAYPAL and fund it with a CREDIT CARD.
then if anything goes wrong and PAYPAL can't get you a refund, you then have the option of filing for a CHARGEBACK through your CC provider.
PAY SAFE, STAY SAFE!
NEVER, EVER send anyone WESTERN UNION!
NEVER click on a link in any email!
if you see the words NIGERIA, ROMANIA or CHINA, RUN LIKE THE WIND!
90% + of ALL DESIGNER items on ebay are FAKES or COUNTERFEITS or simply don't exist.
NEVER make any deals "off ebay", meaning you must bid and win an actual auction.
DO NOT bid on sellers with less than 99% positive feedback.
check the sellers feedback and make sure the feedback is from actually SELLING and not just from buying a bunch of cheap penny items, e-books, etc...
if the seller has had NO ACTIVITY on their account for a long time and then they are suddenly selling LAPTOPS, TVs, PHONES or other electronics, chances are the account has been HIJACKED. DO NOT BID! you will lose your money.
if a seller emails you and tells you he will sell to you w/o you being the WINNING BIDDER, report the email and ignore the offer!
read as much of this ebay discussion board as you can:
http://forums.ebay.com/db2/forum.jspa?forumID=107&anticache=1188278937275
that is the ebay Trust and Safety Board and can teach you about all of the scams and how to protect yourself.
Good Luck and be careful!

I quit my job and did ebay for 5 years and made great money. However, they kept upping their fees and they also made it easy for anyone and everyone to sell so competition grew and profits went down.
The worse thing that happened to me is people started copying me. For example, I knew of a great place to buy new, unused items for a low price. I was making a $50 profit on this particular item. I live in a small town, people at the store figured out what I was doing and suddenly, 5 other people were selling the same item. I was lucky to make $5 after ebay and paypal fees on the item.
Also, Paypal is great for buyers but not for sellers. If someone bitches about the item they receive from tyou, Paypal will freeze your account for up to 60 days while they "investigate". Whatever money you have in there is not accessible to you. If they rule against you, the money is taken from your account and the buyer doesNOT HAVE TO RETURN THE PRODUCT so you will be out the money and the product.
Calling either ebay or paypal on the phone is impossible, they do not take phone calls. I finally got the email address of the president of ebay, Bill Cobb, and I complained to him about some practices. It didn't do much good.
I used to be a huge ebay fan, now I think they are too big for their britches and think they own the online auction market. Which they do, I tried selling on other sites and it sucked.
There is a way to avoid paying extra for pictures in your listings. If you know how to do html, you can save yourself a ton of money by linking to your own pictures versus using their format.
Good luck!

Always check sellers rating ,making sure there isn't a lot of negatives or many neutrals . If either one is present , you should go into their history and see why .You should always read everything possible on that page to avoid any problems .The best way to pay is through Pay Pal . It's free and easy , except for what you may pay for . It's all pretty much self explanatory . I have enjoyed Ebay very much . Good Luck and Happy Bidding or Selling ...

Payments, always use Paypal when buying or selling on ebay, nothing else.
Watch for spoof ebay emails, asking for or to confirm your account details, don't use the links for email to pay-pal, go direct from eBay, not the email.
always look at check the seller feedback record, read other peoples comments before bidding.
good luck

yup. paypals always good. & make sure you check feedback before buying, i know some people dont even look especially if the bid's about to end.
oh and when youre checking a sellers feedback look out for signs that the feedback is legitimate. some people make seperate accounts & then leave fake testimonials to make themselves look trustworthy. you'll be able to spot them if they keep getting similar feeback from the same people or people with only one or two feedback.
umm....the other thing is just a matter of choice but i avoid the ones that sell from china etc. keep it local.
