The staple of the Puritans was pease porridge. Peas could be boiled or baked and were eaten hot or cold three times a day. They preferred to boil their food rather than bake it, and boiled meat and vegetable mixtures without seasoning. They steered clear of the lobsters, clams, etc that were plentiful as well as wild fowl. Their food preferences most reflected the East Anglia region of England. Their beverages of choice were dark beer and fermented apple cider.
