Depends on what music it is. Music can unite and divide.

depending on the music, and the contents therein.
Some music, such as rap is very degrading. It is not a music to unite anything, even within its own culture, there is argument as to its content.
Some music such as deathmetal is also not good to unite anything, as its content tends to be violent, or satanic in nature.
If you exclude certain types of music, and only take middle of the road forms instead of extreme forms, then yes, music is amazing at uniting the world, because music tends to ignite feelings that words alone can not.

Well if I don't like the music and I have to hear it anyways, It definitly divides my world.
