If you're using the styrofoam to approximate the finished size of something to avoid the weight of clay itself, you'll need to cover the styrofoam with something like chickenwire, which can be formed to shape around the foam, and the clay will then be pressed into the wire armature to hold its shape without adding alot of weight. Be sure first layer of clay gets a good hold around wire, then fine-tune sculptural shape from there.

You question doesn't give enough information. Give us a better description of what you are doing.
Are you trying to coat the styrofoam with the clay to seal the holes in the styrofoam? If so you may need to coat the styrofoan with a medium like gesso or modeling paste or wall plaster..

If the styrofoam is sufficiently small, you are able to thoroughly encapsulate it (conceal all six aspects) and the clay will carry on with itself. whether that's larger, you're able to try rolling the clay right into a slab with a rolling pin. place the slab over the froth, conceal it with a sheet of wax paper, and weight it down with books or different flat weights. go away it in one day, and check out it interior the morning. good success!
