In the past, no problems but recently, when I run my scan disk, it will get rid of all EXCEPT in the area listed as "compress old files" and there are 69,000 plus kb in there and I simply cannot get it reduced no matter how many times I run the scan disk?

The two people who answered don't even understand your question so how do they answer.
Scan disc DOES NOT CLEAN ANYTHING, it only tells you if you disc is good and if it has any bad sectors.
You have to tell us what you are trying to do.

Gday

Scandisk is nothing but a diagnostics tool to check for bad sectors on your HDD it shouldnt be getting rid of anything

if there is another tool out now called scandisk i will eat my words with humble pie but as far as i know its nothing more then a diagnostics tool for dos and earlier versions of windows

they might be compressed already
---------------
also do this
-----------------
start up in safe mode (F8)
go into the following folders and delete all the contents including folders in there

open windows explorer

kill everything in them, spare NONE !
-----------------

- delete all files and folders in this directory !
C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Local Settings\Temp\*.*

-----------------
- delete all files and folders in this directory !
C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\*.*

-----------------

look for suspicious programs or something dont look right in here
- then delete that particular file/s and/or folders in this directory !
c:\program files\*.*

-----------------

- scan and view anything that looks odd (maybe delete)
C:\windows\temp\*.*

and then empty RECYCLE BIN

After that scan for virus and spyware if u have the program/s.
-----------------
Then restart in normal startup and see if this continues.
If it does then I strongly and urgently request you to reinstall your Operating System and your drivers etc...

Then when u get connected to the net

download
http://firefox.com and use this instead of Internet Explorer

Do you mean scandisk or disk cleanup?

Why not use Ccleaner - (Crap Cleaner) it does a better job and is free:

Who cares who dares?
