There are several things you can do about this.
First, his name is on the lease and he is just as responsible as you. Regardless of your relationship his name is on the lease. Keep receipts of paying the rent, utilities and everything involved. That is the key to it.
Unfortunately you may be the one that has to pay for it but your costs will be recoup by taking him to court after it is all said and done.
He signed and if you can prove that you paid for everything when he decided to move, it was his choice to move out. However, you do have to prove several things as far as you were doing what you possibly could to keep the relationship together.
He made the mistake of moving out...he is breaking a law binding agreement with your landlord and leaving it up to you to take care of. He signed and he is partially responsible for the terms of the lease.

No, it's not, and you can take him to court. In the meantime you will have to pay the rent by yourself or get kicked out. If you can't do it on your own, then move out and you can still take him to court.

See an attorney immediately. You will need to get a legal separation. In that agreement, you will need to have his financial obligation listed.
I did not do this in time when I got separated. I got stuck with all of the bills. Get to an attorney TODAY!!! You need to protect yourself.
