I've always wanted to see Mackinaw Island ever since watching "Somewhere in Time" - is it really a good place to visit? What is the best place to stay?

It is great!!! I used to go there every summer with my family, but we would only go for the day. The best place to stay is at the Grand Hotel, very expensive. That is where the movie was shot. Any of the hotels are nice. You might want to consider staying on either the upper or lower parts of Michigan and taking the ferry over to the island. It is nice because except for emergency vehicles, you don't have to worry about cars, just people on bikes and horses. The have a website it is www.mackinacisland.org. Hope you decide to go.

The island itself is very expensive, but very fun. Hotels on the island are anywhere from $150 a night and up. We usually stay in St Ignace and take the Ferry over. Hotels there are about $50 a night and are pretty good. The best place to stay on the island is the Grand Hotel - unbelievable experience.

a friend of mine used to work there.. he said that it's very expensive and that mostly rich people go there.. if you're rich, then I imagine it's pretty nice.. personally I'd rather get more bang for my buck in someplace that's a little warmer..
