Did you not watch the video? Kerry tried to call the cops off... they persisted. Kerry then stated that it was a good, honest question. He even tried to answer the question when the guy was being tasered!
What's your proof that this was a "liberal college"? What's your proof that the cops were under anyone's orders at all?
The guy was clearly getting too worked up -- it wasn't the question being asked, it was the manner in which he was asking the question and not allowing Kerry to answer. Then, rather than being polite, the police were way too overly forceful right away. Bad idea. Then everything escallated. There was no political motiviation one way or another! The guy got to ask his question!

As you say, the fool was obviously "asking for it" and he got it. Good thing he didn't die. Use of the Taser has resulted in about 200 deaths.
Unfortunately, police are placed between the rock and the hard spot by liberal public opinion and a weak judicial system, and aren't allowed to do their jobs proplerly without fear of being suspended, demoted, fired, and sued. If they had subdued this fool by wrestling with him or striking him, they would have been accused even more strongly of police brutality, even though the student might have been a lot better off with a few bruises than the possible results of using a Taser.
The nicer public image of the Taser is that it is a fast-acting, clean-looking, single strike against a law violator, and far more effective than Mace, which may not stop an enraged person at all.
"Pistol whipping" would have got you fired, sued, and jailed, "Chevy Man".

The student was out of line. A U.S. Senator was in the room and no one knew if this student had a gun or not. The student was warned and asked to go quietly, but he chose to physically fight the police. The police were not out of line. It is sad that, even if the student disagrees with Kerry's politics, that he couldn't stand there like an educated gentleman and ask his questions. The bottom line is, he had an agenda and he got what he was looking for. The whole thing was a farce. the students should be upset that this 'kid' didn't take this session seriously. It doesn't matter if it was a Democrate or a Republican, we must listen and reason, and question, and debate. Anyone can be the fool - that's easy.

I think the "no brainer" goes to your side. If he had any "intention" of asking questions the President didn't like, he would have been barred from the gathering. Think about it, you don't see protesters in any meetings with the President. Maybe outside, but not actually in the room. He was allowed access but did not feel he had to abide by the rules. Then resisted lawful orders by the police.
