Should these guys get the book thrown at them?

Ok to those you say free the Jena 6, ask yourself how you would feel if it was a family member of yours that got beat down, would you want to free their attackers??? Yeah I think not! They left the guy for dead, that's messed up. It's NOT 6 black guys against one white guy, it's 6 GUYS against one GUY, no matter the race, that was way wrong.

The punishment does not fit the crime. All of those kids should have been dealt with accordingly and they were not. Thats what the protest is about, that its not a fair punishment under the law!!

If that white boy was hurt so badly and beaten within inches of his life, why after 3 hours of being released from the hospital he want out to a party? Yeah he was really hurt bad!! Whatever!!

The whole thing is a joke. The JENA 6 should be prosecuted absoutely. I'm tired of hearing about slavery and all that crap. I didn't own any and you weren't one so get over it.
As for the ropes hanging from the tree, whoever hung them should be punished as well.
But why did it take 6 punks to beat up one punk?
Sharpton and Jackson can KMA. If it had been 6 whites who beat up a black, just imagine!

Where I live 4-6 blacks abducted a white couple and molested them and cut off their genitals and killed them. Have you heard about that!? NO because they're BLACK, where was Jesse and Al then? Bastards.
Again, turn that around racially and see what would have happened.

The fact that people are traveling from all over to support the JENA 6 is sickening.

Regardless of race, wrong is wrong!

Beating and assaulting someone to a point where they could have died is attempted murder! Hanging a noose is not! It has NOTHING to do with race!
The punishment DOES fit the crime!
We should be thinking of the VICTIM and not the men who beat him to near death!

Did we not READ the article people? It states

"The teens were initially charged with attempted murder after they allegedly knocked out Justin Barker -- a white classmate -- while stomping and kicking him during a school fight on December 4, 2006.

Barker was taken to a hospital with injuries to both eyes and ears, as well as cuts. His right eye had blood clots, said his mother, Kelli Barker."

So if Rev. Al Sharpton wants to talk about "justice" then he should have no problem with these kids being handed a proper sentence in which they WERE!!!!

man, this situation really sucks. yes, it's totally effed up that some racists white kids decided to show their ignorance by putting nooses in a tree, but apparently there was no law to be found that cited this act as illegal. which is why the didn't get more than a slap on the wrist. but the kids who beat up another kid DID perform an illegal act and should get a fair punishment for it. i do think it's going a bit to far though. if every kid that beat up another kid went to jail, there'd be a lot of empty seats in the classrooms. what the white kids did was abominable, however legal. i hate that things like this always end up being about race when they shouldn't be. it should be about getting in trouble for things you done against the law. maybe townsfolk shoudl lobby to make noose hanging illegal. it would probably screw up some peoples' ideas for halloween decorations though.

Yes, I have heard and read a little about the case. I believe they should be set free. They are being treated way too harshly. What those white kids did with the nooses is disgusting and despicable. They should have received a much harsher punishment. What they got was akin to a slap on the wrist. I hope those black kids are freed and apologized to because they were treated unfairly. They had a right to be angry. They were wrong for beating up the white kid to be sure. But obviously fear was the main reason here. It seems they were right based on how they were treated and what treatment the white kids received for their cruel act.

They deserve to get punished for what they did. But I think the kids who hung the nooses should get some sort of punishment too.

yes. They committed a criminal act, and a vicious one at that. They should be penalized like anyone else.

Anyone who commits a violent crime should be punished, especially if he/she has prior criminal history. Stop focusing on race. Good luck. 2D
