I can't say that I've waited HOURS, though emergencies happen. The only one I've waited a long time for was a specialist I also waited several months to see. Usually, when I arrive for an appointment, I'll ask the receptionist if the doctor is running on time or late. If the doctor is running considerably late, I'll get something else done or reschedule. Pick appointments first thing in the morning or try to get the first one after lunch. They're generally on time.

Hey, no one straps you to the seat in the lobby and makes you wait. If you don't want to wait to see him, then don't.
Why are doctors often delayed? Well, throughout the day various things can happen, like emergent injuries, sudden life threatening illnesses, or patients with very complicated problems. All these must be dealt with as they arise, and it almost always takes longer than the time alloted for an appointment. If you needed the same, he would take that time with you as well....so give the doc a break, he isn't making you wait, he is doing his job to the best of his ability.

That does not happen at our clinics and if it happens at your clinic you should only wait 10 minutes in the waiting area before talking to the receptionist to find out what is going on and how much longer it will be. If the doc is running way behind they should tell you at check in so you have the option of rescheduling if you need to. For now if you have waited 10 minutes go talk to the receptionist. If you have waited over 10 minutes once you are in the exam room then go out to the nurses desk to ask if they have a clue how long it will be. YOU have to be the one to find out what the hold up is.

Unless they had a previous emergency which caused them to have a backlog of patients, then I would say because someone is overbooking. Doctor's offices then to do that when HMO's are involved as they pay very small set payments for office visits and to make up for the difference, the office books more patients per slot.

It's called cluster booking. Management technique. Would you think your doctor was good if he/she did not have a room full of patients?
