All of us have albums in our collection that were purchased with the best of intentions, but eventually became little more than background noise for us. Many albums are regarded as significantly more, largely because of lyrical content.

What are some albums that fall under this description?

personnally i like to know the lyrics of any song i like!! If I listen to music in my house or listening to it while walking or anything like that I always follow the lyrics and the music itself!! The only time it would become background music to me is if it's on a radio in a pub or something like that!!! So albums for me would be my entire collection which i won't list here!!! An example though, anything by the Beatles eg. I am The Walrus and Strawberry Fields!! and many of the Kinks songs eg Waterloo Sunset and Dead End Street!

For me the greatest or best hits album of U2, REM, Eagles, John Denver, Bryan Adams, Kenny Rogers, The Cure, The Cranberries are example of music albums that needs to be listened to.

Others are 'Fallen' by Evanescence, 'Come On Over' by Shania Twain, 'Little Jagged Pill' by Alanis Morissette and 'Ten' by Pearl Jam

Nothing in my collection is 'background noise'!

Albums where you really need to 'listen' to the lyrics {to hear the story} are :~

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms
Jethro Tull - Heavy Horses
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left

Songs :~

Morning Dew - Nazareth
Lady D'arbanville - Cat Stevens

Black Holes and Revelations by Muse, the first time I really, really listened to it, it blew me away, I liked the album before but camping, lying down, looking at the stars, not hearing anything but the music is the best way to listen to the album.

Anything by Cat Stevens, he was an underrated brilliant songwriter, he wrote some life changing songs.

Example: Tea for the Tillerman, probably one of the best 10 albums ever made.

May be cheesy, but pretty much every John Mayer song deserves to be listened to. Bob Dylan, too. And, I hate this guy's voice, but Kris Kristoferson is one heavy lyricist. Eminem and Kanye West have some deep lyrics, too.
